THE GRAFICAL PART |
This subsection of our review highlights the main graphical aspects of this game. Particular attention is paid to the version of the graphics engine used, the version of the API used, graphic settings and the quality of development of the main visual aspects.
Supported OS and graphics API |
ACE COMBAT Assault Horizon is supported by major Windows operating systems, which include XP, Vista and Windows 7 and Windows 8. Other operating systems are not currently supported by developers and will not receive support.
The priority and main graphics API for the PC version is DirectX 9. The game is available on the Steam digital store.
Game engine |
The game is based on its own game engine, which was developed by Project Aces for use in proprietary products produced by Namco Bandai.
We did not find any more detailed information about the game engine, except for the data listed above…
Advanced Game Settings |
ACE COMBAT Assault Horizon is a direct result of the console port, so the game has virtually no graphical settings other than changing the resolution and turning on/off anti-aliasing and vertical synchronization. There are no changeable quality settings in the game at all…
Below we have provided screenshots of the game with anti-aliasing mode enabled/disabled; unfortunately, there are no other settings in the game…

As we can see, when full-screen anti-aliasing is activated, the picture in ACE COMBAT Assault Horizon becomes much nicer… |
General visual design and game physics |
As mentioned above, the game ACE COMBAT Assault Horizon is the result of a console porting, as a result of which, unlike the console versions, it has a higher resolution. Additional settings are anti-aliasing and vertical sync options.
But even despite the glaring facts of porting, ACE COMBAT Assault Horizon all still has a completely adequate graphical component and is able to some extent interest the PC audience. The only glaring minus is the disgusting depiction of the earth’s surface. There are practically no complaints about the aircraft models themselves.
For more comfortable playability, we recommend using a game controller, although the game is adapted for a mouse and keyboard. Well, then we will move directly to gaming tests and determine what impact this game has on modern computer hardware.

GPU test |
All video cards were tested at maximum graphics quality by the program MSI Afterburner. The purpose of the test is to determine how video cards from different manufacturers behave under the same conditions. The average FPS was taken as a performance indicator. Below is a video of the test segment:
Our video cards were tested at separate screen sizes of 1920×1080 and 2560×1600 at the maximum graphics quality settings allowed by ACE COMBAT Assault Horizon. Multi-chip configurations from NVIDIA and AMD are not fully supported by the game at the moment.
Testing at maximum quality settings 1920×1080
At a resolution of 1920×1080 at maximum settings, video cards of the Radeon HD 5750 or GeForce GTS 450 level again showed an acceptable FPS. The optimal video cards will be solutions Radeon HD 5770 or GeForce GTX 550 Ti and above.
Testing at maximum quality settings 2560×1600
At a resolution of 2560×1600 at maximum settings, video cards of the Radeon HD 5830 or GeForce GTX 560 level showed an acceptable minimum FPS. The optimal video cards will be solutionsRadeon HD 6870 or GeForce GTX 480 and above.
VRAM test |
Testing of video memory consumed by the game was carried out by the program MSI Afterburner. The indicator was based on results on top video cards from AMD and NVIDIA with separate screen sizes 1920×1080 and 2560×1600.
Testing at maximum memory GPU quality settings
The optimal amount of video memory for this game is up to 1024 megabytes for normal resolutions and more than 1024 megabytes for ultra-high resolutions.
CPU test |
We tested processor dependence on 12 models of basic configurations that are relevant today. The test was carried out in those places where the value of video cards for the game is minimal and its load was less than 99%, this time at a resolution of 1920×1080 with maximum graphics quality settings.
Testing at maximum quality settings 1920×1080
ACE COMBAT Assault Horizon works great on two processor cores, but when the number of cores is increased to 4, performance improves noticeably.
RAM test |
Testing of the RAM consumed by the game was carried out by monitoring directly through the Windows task manager. The test was carried out on the basic configuration of Core i 7 [email protected] GHz with 8GB DDR3 2400 MGz pre-installed memory.
Testing at various quality settings
As we can see, with different quality settings, the amount of RAM consumed in ACE COMBAT Assault Horizon is at the same level and amounts to 700 megabytes.
