Acer Nitro 5 (AN517-54) laptop review

In our review, we present to you the Acer Nitro 5 (AN517-54) laptop, which belongs to the gaming line, having on board a Core i7 11800H processor, 32GB DDR4 3200 MHz memory and a GEFORCE RTX 3070 video card with 8 gigabytes of video memory.

This subsection of our review highlights the main aspects of the Acer Nitro 5 (AN517-54), such as appearance and hardware configuration.

The laptop is quite compact and elegant. On the sides we have one usb 2.0, two usb 3.0, one usb type c and one HDMI. The laptop’s power supply is connected from the rear. There is also a backlit keyboard and a large 17,3-inch QuadHD screen with a refresh rate of 144 Hz.

The laptop power supply has a power of 230 W and a voltage of 19,5 Volts.

The graphics subsystem consists of 2 video cards

And a discrete GEFORCE RTX 3070 with 5120 stream processors (which is closer to the desktop GEFORCE RTX 3060 Ti) and 8 gigabytes of onboard GDDR6 memory with a bandwidth of 427 GB/s.

The RAM is 32GB DDR4 3200 MHz, and the storage is 2 TB SSD PCI Express in combination with an additional 2 TB HDD.

The performance of the drives is quite standard for their HDD class, but the SSD is quite high, even for PCI Express 4.0 desktops, which will be a special bonus for those who like fast loading times.

In the mode of viewing content on the Internet – about 60 W, in game mode – about 170 W, and at maximum load – about 185 W.

The entire process of our testing was recorded with a 4K video capture card AverMedia Live Gamer ULTRA – GC553 and posted on Youtube. On all videos, time stamps were placed on each segment so that it is convenient for you to find the result you are interested in.

Screen resolution was also added separately 3840×2160, and although the laptop display (2560×1440 its ceiling) does not support it, this does not prevent you from connecting it to a monitor or TV with this resolution without any problems.

As we can see, the game is playable in almost all different screen sizes at maximum settings. 60 frames can be obtained at a resolution of 1920×1080 with activated DLSS technology.

In Horizon Zero Dawn, performance is clearly limited by the processor, and when DLSS is activated, processor performance drops a little further. But also, activating DLSS will allow you to play at fixed “console” 30 FPS and 40 FPS on 120 Hz TVs or monitors with VRR, even in 4K

Here the laptop has no problems with the game at all – the game works perfectly in its native 2560×1440 resolution.

The laptop does not have any obvious performance problems in this game.

As we can see, the game Resident Evil Village does not work correctly and in certain places the processor frequency is noticeably reduced, which leads to a loss of performance. But the frame rate is still acceptable in all modes.

Well, here in the native resolution and ray tracing enabled we can play without any problems. At low screen resolutions, minor problems with processor performance are observed.

Well, my impressions of the Acer Nitro 5 (AN517-54) laptop are purely positive – it is thin, light, technologically advanced and very productive. With a native maximum resolution of 2560×1440, it will be able to cope with all new gaming titles at maximum graphics settings without any problems. Also, DLSS technology will allow you to play at fixed “console” 30 FPS and 40 FPS on 120 Hz TVs or monitors with VRR, even in 4K. Among the minuses, we can note the very “hot” nature of the laptop and its price.
