The latest Alan Wake 2 update, version 1.000.017, represents a significant step in optimizing the game. With this update, Remedy Entertainment is focusing on improving performance for graphics cards that don't support Mesh Shaders in DirectX 12 Ultimate. The improvements are particularly noticeable in the NVIDIA GTX 1000 series, with the GTX 1060 delivering a 45% performance boost and the GTX 1080 and GTX 1080Ti delivering even more impressive results.

However, not all the news is so encouraging, as owners of AMD RX graphics cards are facing some difficulties. In particular, GPUs such as the AMD RX 580 without Mesh Shaders support experience stability issues and lower frame rates compared to their NVIDIA counterparts. Despite this, the update brings a minimal improvement for this series as well, although it is not that significant.

The patch also includes performance improvements for the latest NVIDIA RTX 40 series GPUs, demonstrating the developers' commitment to keeping up with the times and delivering optimal gaming experiences on the latest hardware. For example, the RTX 4070 shows a 14% speed increase without ray tracing enabled and a 6% speed increase with ray tracing enabled.

In addition to technical improvements, the update marks important achievements for Alan Wake 2 as a project. The game has sold over 1.3 million copies, making it Remedy Entertainment's fastest-selling title. In addition, two new DLCs have been announced - Night Springs and Lake House, which promise to expand and deepen the gaming experience in the near future.

This update is a testament to Remedy's ongoing efforts to improve and expand Alan Wake 2, highlighting their commitment to quality game content and performance optimization. Not only does it improve the gaming experience for a wide range of players, but it also lays the foundation for future updates and additions.

DIFFERENT QUALITY MODES

"Alan Wake 2" takes ray tracing and pat tracing to new heights, surpassing many modern games in terms of graphical complexity and realism. The developers at Remedy Entertainment have put a lot of effort into using these technologies to create a deep and engaging atmosphere, highlighting the dark and mysterious storyline of the game. Alan Wake 2 features improved lighting, shadows and reflections through the use of full ray tracing.

Pat tracing in the game, namely its use for indirect lighting, makes a significant contribution to the atmosphere of the game, making the game world more believable and immersive. Using this technology allows you to achieve highly detailed lighting and shadows, which is especially noticeable in dynamic and complex scenes where light and shadow are constantly changing.

However, some problems have been noted with the implementation of pat tracing, especially regarding shadows from leaves and other small objects. In certain situations, ray tracing can cause shadows from such objects to not appear as expected, which can reduce realism and immersion in the game. This is due to the fact that pat tracing is used primarily for indirect lighting, and its current implementation in the game can cause some problems with shadows.

It should be noted that Alan Wake 2 is one of the first games to use advanced graphics technologies such as ray tracing and pat tracing, combined with improved lighting and reflections. This allows the game to stand out from others and offers players a unique visual experience. However, despite the visual improvements, players are advised to evaluate performance and graphics quality on their specific systems and, if necessary, adjust graphics settings to achieve the optimal balance between visual quality and performance.

Testing of video memory consumed by the game was carried out by  MSI Afterburner. The indicator was based on results on video cards from AMD and NVIDIA at resolutions of  1920x1080, 2560x1440 and 3840x2160 with various anti-aliasing settings. By default, the graph displays the most current solutions. Other video cards are added and removed from the chart at the request of the reader.
