Assassin's Creed Origins- Graphics Settings Comparison

The new review will be devoted to graphic settings and their impact on the quality of the picture in the game, which became a prequel to the entire franchise about the centuries-old confrontation between the Assassins and the Templars - Assassin's Creed Origins. There are a lot of settings in the game and we will consider each of them.

The first setting is Smoothing, which is represented by the following modes - High, Medium, Low and Off. As a rule, this is one of the key parameters that affect the picture, but in this case, as you can see from the screenshots, the differences between High, Medium and Low can only be noticed when examining the screenshots very carefully. But turning off anti-aliasing is immediately visible, and although it removes the "soap", the overall picture quality becomes worse.

Next up are the Shadow settings. There are 6 modes - Highest, Very High, High, Medium, Low and Very Low. Between the Highest and Very High, the difference, although visible, is not critical - the shadows become less saturated and a little more blurry. The same applies to the transition to the High. From High to Medium, the difference is already noticeably much stronger - the clarity of the shadows becomes much more blurred, the saturation becomes very weak. The transition from Medium to Low and from Low to Very Low is already less noticeable.

The environment is next. There are also 6 modes - Highest, Very High, High, Medium, Low and Very Low. There was no difference between Highest and Very High. The transition from Very High to High is also very subtle, as are the transitions from High to Medium, Medium to Low, and Low to Very Low. The only thing that changes in the picture is that some small details disappear in the distance, the foliage on the trees and the textures of the landscape become a little more blurry.

Let's move on to Texture Detailing. 4 modes - High, Medium, Low and Very Low. The transition from High to Medium is practically not striking, you need to peer very carefully. But from Medium to Low, it is already much more clearly visible - the textures of the surrounding world immediately lose their clarity and details become blurry. From Low to Very Low, the transition is also very clear - the textures become completely blurred and small details are almost invisible.

The next setting is Tessellation, represented by 4 modes - Very High, High, Medium and Off. The difference between Very High and High, although visible, is not so obvious, and manifests itself in the fact that when the quality decreases, the textures of the stones become less embossed. Between High and Medium, the difference is already visible more clearly - the stones become flatter and do not look so realistic. Well, if you completely turn off tessellation, then the landscape becomes completely flat in some places and looks rather unsightly.

Relief - there are only 2 modes, High and Medium. The difference between them could not be detected even with the most detailed examination.

Density of small objects - this parameter is responsible for the detail and density of vegetation and the presence of small objects such as stones in it, it has 3 parameters, Very High, High, Medium and Low. Between Very High and High, the difference is almost not noticeable, only in some places you can see that the grass becomes less dense and a little more uniform. The transition from High to Medium is also very weak, but from Medium to Low is already clearly visible - the grass almost completely disappears.

Fog - there are 3 settings, Very High, High and Medium. The difference between all three modes could not be considered, and the fog itself is quite difficult to find.

Water - 4 parameters, Very High, High, Medium and Low. Between Very High and High, the only difference is that the water becomes slightly less transparent. When moving from High to Medium, the water becomes almost opaque. Well, the transition from Medium to Low removes additional details in the form of foam on the water.

Full Screen Reflections - 3 settings, High, Medium and Off. The difference between High and Medium is that reflections on the water become much less, and turning this setting off completely removes reflections from the water.

Volumetric clouds - On and Off. When you turn it off, as you can see in the screenshot, clouds disappear in the sky.

Character textures are regulated by 4 parameters - High, Medium, Low and Very low. The difference between High and Medium is very noticeable, as the textures on the character become more blurry and fine details are less pronounced. The transition from Medium to Low is not so noticeable, but the difference between Low and Very Low is visible very clearly - the textures of the character almost completely lose small details, volume and become completely blurry.

Character detail, 6 modes - Highest, Very High, High, Medium, Low and Very Low. If you believe the description of this parameter, then it should change the level of detail of the characters, but in fact this difference is only between the Highest and Very Low and manifests itself in the fact that at a minimum, the textures of NPC clothing lose fine details and become blurry, and even then this You can only see it if you look really hard.

Let's move on to Volumetric Lighting, there are 3 modes - Very High, High and Off. The difference between Very High and High, although noticeable, is very weak and manifests itself in the fact that the shadows become less saturated during self-shadowing and there are only slightly fewer of them. The transition from High to Off is already clearly visible - almost all additional shadows on objects and in the grass disappear altogether.

And the last parameter is Depth of Field, which is controlled by the On and Off options. The difference manifests itself in the fact that when this setting is turned off, objects out of focus of the camera and in the distance lose their blur.

Summing up, we can say that although the graphics in the game look very decent and are regulated by a large number of parameters, it cannot be said that it is very amazing. Most of the parameters, if they have an effect on the quality of the picture, are very insignificant or when switching to the most minimal settings, well, or even this effect is practically not noticeable. The most disappointing thing is the general blurryness of the image.
