18th century, North America. Amid the chaos and violence of the North American Seven Years' War, the young and brave assassin Shai Patrick Cormac undergoes an ideological metamorphosis. After a dangerous mission that ends in tragedy, Shai becomes disillusioned with the Order of the Assassins and no longer wishes to be a member of their Brotherhood. Exposed to mortal danger and rejected by those he once considered his brothers, Shai Patrick Cormac embarks on a brand new adventure. Destroying all those who betrayed him, he becomes one of the most dangerous assassin hunters.

Assassin's Creed Rogue is the darkest chapter in Assassin's Creed history. Become a witness to the transformation of the protagonist from a staunch assassin into a brutal hunter of them. Follow your own creed and embark on an exciting journey through the expanses of North America, the New York City neighborhoods, the wild river valleys and the cold Atlantic waters. Now your goal is to destroy the Assassins!

THE GRAFICAL PART

In this subsection of our review, the main graphical aspects of this game are revealed. Particular attention is paid to the version of the graphics engine used, the version of the API used, graphics settings and the quality of the development of the main visual aspects.

Supported OS and graphics API

Assassin's Creed Rogue is supported by major Windows operating systems, which include Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8. Other operating systems are not currently supported by the developers and will not be supported.

The priority and primary graphics API for Assassin's Creed Rogue is  DirectX 11

Game engine

Assassin's Creed Rogue was developed on Anvi Next engine 2.0, a game engine created by Ubisoft Montreal, a subsidiary of publisher Ubisoft. "Anvil" is a commercial proprietary cross-platform game engine designed for use on a personal computer (Microsoft Windows and Apple OS X) and game consoles PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS and Nintendo Wii. First used in Assassin's Creed.

 anvil-next

The first game to use the Anvil engine was the third-person action game Assassin's Creed, developed by Ubisoft Montreal and released in 2007 for game consoles and in 2008 for PC. In this game, the engine was called "Scimitar" Even before the release of the game "Assassin's Creed", in August 2006, Claude Lenglet, technical director of "Assassin's Creed", confirmed that a standalone game using the Scimitar engine was under development and would be shown in 2007. However, no announcement was made in 2007.

 Assassin's Creed 2007

The game turned out to be Shaun White Snowboarding, a snowboarding sim that was expected to be released before the end of 2008 for all key platforms. However, the game was released in November and December 2008. The Wii console version of the game supports the Wii Balance Board accessory.

 Prince of Persia 2008

The third game to use the engine is Prince of Persia (2008), released in December 2008, also developed by Ubisoft Montreal. In this game, the engine was renamed to Anvil. In addition, this version of the engine uses cel shaders to give the visual style of the game the effect of "fabulous".

 Ubisoft Ukraine

The latest version of Anvil engine supports DX11 features. But that is not all. Also, the game was equipped with high-resolution textures. Assassin's Creed Rogue was ported to PC by the Ukrainian representative office of Ubisoft Ukraine.

The PC version was created with the help of Tobii Tech, which added eye-tracking technology to the game. When using the SteelSeries Sentry Eyetracker accessory, when the player moves their eyes to the left or right side of the screen, the camera will automatically follow their gaze.

Advanced game settings

Assassin's Creed Rogue has graphics settings similar to those of Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag, except that they have been greatly reduced: only FXAA is available with anti-aliasing, no soft shadows and advanced NVIDIA physics.

Below we have provided screenshots of the game at various graphics settings, where our readers can see the difference between the minimum, medium and maximum graphics quality settings.

In 4K, Assassin's Creed Rogue looks much better than HD.

Activating full-screen anti-aliasing FXAA virtually eliminates all "surface roughness".

General visual design and game physics

Our video cards were tested at resolutions of 1920x1080, 2560x1600 and 3840x2160 at very high and maximum graphics quality settings allowed by Assassin's Creed Rogue. AMD CrossFireX and SLI are not supported by the game, but for them we applied the Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag profile  , as a result of which CrossFireX received an increase of up to 20%, and SLI up to 85%. The game has an internal FPS limit of 61 frames.

With these settings,  video cards of the Radeon HD 7950 or GeForce GTX 760 level showed an acceptable FPS.   Radeon R9 285 or GeForce GTX 680 would be the best solutions  .

Testing of the video memory consumed by the game was carried out by the  MSI Afterburner program. The results on top video cards from AMD and NVIDIA were taken as an indicator at resolutions of  1920x1080 and 2560x1600 with various anti-aliasing settings.

Testing at maximum memory GPU quality settings

 acrvram

The recommended amount of video memory usage for a resolution of 1920x1080 will be 1280 MB of video memory, for a resolution of 2560x1600 - 1536 MB of video memory and for a resolution of 3840x2160 about 2048 MB of video memory.

CPU test

  1920

We tested processor dependence on 16 models of basic configurations that are relevant today. The test was carried out in those places where the value of the video card for the game is minimal and its load was less than 99%, this time at a resolution of 1920x1080 with maximum graphics quality settings.

Assassin's Creed Rogue is disproportionately capable of supporting up to 16 processing threads, but only 4 processing cores are fully utilized.

RAM test

The test was carried out on the base configuration Core i 7 5960X @ 4.6 GHz with 16GB DDR4 2400 MGz pre-installed memory. All used RAM was taken as an indicator. The RAM test on the entire system was carried out on various test benches without running extraneous applications (browsers, etc.).

Testing the game's RAM consumption at various quality settings

acr ram

As we can see, with various quality settings, the amount of RAM consumed in Assassin's Creed Rogue is at the level of 900 megabytes.

Testing system RAM consumption

 acr ram2

With a 6 GB system, Assassin's Creed Rogue consumes about 2.4 GB of RAM. In the presence of a system with 8 gigabytes, the RAM consumption of all RAM was 2.6 gigabytes. With a 16 GB system, total memory consumption was almost 2.9 GB. And with 32 gigabytes of RAM, the system consumes 4  gigabytes of RAM.
