THE GRAFICAL PART

In this subsection of our review, the main graphical aspects of this game are revealed. Particular attention is paid to the version of the graphics engine used, the version of the API used, graphics settings and the quality of the development of the main visual aspects.

Supported OS and graphics API

Assassin's Creed Syndicate only runs on Windows 7 and Windows 8/10. Other operating systems are currently not supported and are unlikely to receive support.

The primary and primary graphics API for Assassin's Creed Syndicate's multiplayer game is DirectX 11. The game operates through the Uplay digital game sales service.

Game engine 

Assassin's Creed Syndicate was developed on Anvi Next engine 2.0, a game engine created by Ubisoft Montreal, a subsidiary of publisher Ubisoft. "Anvil" is a commercial proprietary cross-platform game engine designed for use on a personal computer (Microsoft Windows and Apple OS X) and game consoles PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS and Nintendo Wii. First used in Assassin's Creed.

The first game to use the Anvil engine was the third-person action game Assassin's Creed, developed by Ubisoft Montreal and released in 2007 for game consoles and in 2008 for PC. In this game, the engine was called "Scimitar" Even before the release of the game "Assassin's Creed", in August 2006, Claude Lenglet, technical director of "Assassin's Creed", confirmed that a standalone game using the Scimitar engine was under development and would be shown in 2007. However, no announcement was made in 2007.

The game turned out to be Shaun White Snowboarding, a snowboarding sim that was expected to be released before the end of 2008 for all key platforms. However, the game was released in November and December 2008. The Wii console version of the game supports the Wii Balance Board accessory.

The third game to use the engine is Prince of Persia (2008), released in December 2008, also developed by Ubisoft Montreal. In this game, the engine was renamed to Anvil. In addition, this version of the engine uses cel shaders to give the visual style of the game the effect of "fabulous".

The latest version of Anvil engine supports DX11 features. But that is not all. Also, the game was equipped with high-resolution textures. Assassin's Creed Syndicate was ported to PC by the Ukrainian representative office of Ubisoft Ukraine.

None of the smoothing options eliminate surface roughness. In addition, they all "soap" the picture. The MSAA mode does not blur the image more or less.

General visual design and game physics

Assassin's Creed Syndicate has decent graphics, but it immediately catches the eye that it has been slightly simplified compared to last year's Unity. Game videos no longer amaze with cinematography, and the gameplay itself has moved a little towards the cartoon side in visual terms. However, this has its advantages - the game has great performance at low settings on weak hardware.

All video cards were tested at maximum graphics quality by MSI Afterburner. The purpose of the test is to determine how video cards from different manufacturers behave under the same conditions. Below is a video of the test segment:  

Our video cards were tested at resolutions of 1920x1080, 2560x1600 and 3840x2160 at the maximum graphics quality settings allowed by Assassins Creed Syndicate. AMD CrossFireX is well supported by the game, but SLI has problems this time - video card loading does not exceed 60-70%, so we are waiting for optimized drivers.

The tests were carried out at very high and maximum quality settings. The tests were also carried out at maximum quality settings without anti-aliasing.

With these settings, video cards of the Radeon HD 7970 or GeForce GTX 760  level showed an acceptable FPS.  Radeon HD 7970 or GeForce GTX 760 would be the best solutions   .

With these settings, an acceptable FPS was shown by video cards like the Radeon R9 Fury X or GeForce GTX 980 SLI. The best solutions would be Radeon R9 295X2 or GeForce GTX 980 Ti.

With these settings, no modern graphic solution can show an acceptable FPS.

Testing of the video memory consumed by the game was carried out by the  MSI Afterburner program. The results on top video cards from AMD and NVIDIA were taken as the indicator at resolutions of  1920x1080 and 2560x1440 with various anti-aliasing settings.

The recommended amount of video memory usage at very high settings for a resolution of 1920x1080 will be 3076 MB of video memory, for a resolution of 2560x1440 - 3076 MB of video memory and for a resolution of 3840x2160 about 6144 MB of video memory. At the maximum, for a resolution of 1920x1080 there will be 4096 MB of video memory, for a resolution of 2560x1440 - 6144 MB of video memory and for a resolution of 3840x2160 about 6144 MB of video memory.

We tested processor dependence on 16 models of basic configurations that are relevant today. The test was carried out in those places where the value of the video card for the game is minimal and its load was less than 99%, this time at a resolution of 1920x1080 with the given graphics quality settings without anti-aliasing.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate uses up to 16 computing threads, evenly distributing the load between them.

RAM test

The test was conducted on the base configuration Core i 7 5960X @ 4.6 GHz with the amount of pre-installed memory 32 GB DDR4 2400 MGz. All used RAM was taken as an indicator. The RAM test on the entire system was carried out on various test benches without running extraneous applications (browsers, etc.).

As we can see, with various quality settings, the amount of RAM consumed in Assassin's Creed Syndicate is in the range of 2200-3000 megabytes.

With a 6 GB system, Assassin's Creed Syndicate consumes about 4.7 GB of RAM. In the presence of a system with 8 gigabytes, the RAM consumption of all RAM was 5.5 gigabytes. With a 16 GB system, total memory consumption was almost 6.7 GB. And with 32 gigabytes of RAM, the system consumes 7.5  gigabytes of RAM.
