The story of "Call of Juarez: Cartel" begins with an explosion arranged by members of a drug cartel in the building of the US Department of Justice. The exploding bomb claimed the lives of hundreds of people, but this is only the beginning. The government comes to the conclusion that members of the criminal organization, most likely, have already infiltrated the ranks of power structures. The only chance to stop the mafia is to assemble a special task force of loyal people. The choice falls on Kim Evans, an FBI agent who grew up on the streets among criminals, Eddie Guerra, an employee of the DEA, who is fond of gambling, and Ben McCall, a descendant of the hero of the original Ray game McCall.

Review: Playability (by Bartleby )

lsLong before the release of Call of Juarez: The Cartel, it was interesting to watch the upcoming revolution of the series, after all, the Polish studio Techland was preparing the evolution of its series, the transition from the era of the Wild West to the present. I expected at least a good game, after all, the first two parts, the studio showed that it knows how to make games, and quite interesting, atmospheric. Looking ahead, I’ll say that this time the developers disappointed…

Let's start in order. The plot of the game tells the story of a special squad, assembled from representatives of three different law enforcement agencies, to fight extremely insolent drug dealers who flooded the west coast of the states with a huge amount of drugs, bribed many officials, started an open war against the authorities and the police, and our heroes oppose them. .

The characters in the game are DEA agent Eddie Guerra, Detective Ben McCall and FBI agent Kimberly Evans. Cranberries start here already... the characters are surprisingly caricatured, too pretentious for a serious action movie, and even look like famous actors (for example, an FBI agent - the spitting image of Halle Barry), who, I doubt that they gave their consent to participate! Each character has its own plot, history, background, specialization and weapons. You can play in the company of friends, taking on the role of one of the members of the squad.

The gameplay from the first minutes causes unpleasant feelings. The game starts abruptly, with an episode with a chase, in which we need to constantly shoot back from the unknown, trying to actually kill us, why and why it is not clear! Then the “original” move is “2 weeks ago” ... and we are finally explained the plot and finally allowed to choose a character. I chose Kimberly Evans (Hally Barry), the heroine of one of Limp Bizkit's clips attracts more than a pretentious pimp or a descendant of the redskins))

In the first story task, we have to push two gangs head-on, for which we need to break into the plantation, shoot all the (stupid) guards who jump out for some reason in threes, then burn the marijuana field, blow up all the collected stocks and draw a spider on nearby stones with a balloon - a symbol opposing gang. Very exciting...of course sarcasm!

We bring to your attention to evaluate a part of the Call of Juarez: The Cartel game walkthrough in HD resolution, where you can see for yourself the quality of this product:

The crazyness of the picture emphasizes the absolute lack of intelligence among opponents and partners, who now and then shout monotonous phrases, randomly run from one bush to another and randomly fire on trees! Blowing up boxes of marijuana, it seems that you can not even leave the tent, the explosion is so unnatural that standing in the doorway, the heroine does not receive at least some damage ... apparently, our squad was given a damp C4! But the apogee of the absurd, as for me, is the boss! Our agents, hiding in a building, must fight off a combat helicopter that smashes the house to pieces. For some reason, only a fragile heroine can take on the destruction of the enemy, picking up a heavy M60 machine gun, while her partners only do what they hide and bombard us with their tips ....

Overview: Graphics

Call of Juarez: The Cartel uses the Chrome Engine 5 graphics engine. Initially, the Chrome Engine was originally a PC-exclusive engine, but the latest versions have already been developed with support for the current generation of game consoles - Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. As a result of massive crackdowns and pruning Since the first Call of Juarez, the graphics have deteriorated significantly, falling from DirectX 10 to the newfangled DirectX 9... In general, we can say that the picture is pretty, but no more than that, alas, it doesn’t smell of manufacturability.

The graphics renderer is the main part of the Chrome Engine responsible for rendering all game graphics. The detailing is quite good, but everything is very blurry and the draw distance is greatly reduced. The physics engine integrated into Chrome is based on the open source "Open Dynamics Engine" - free software that comes as a plug-in library.

Supports solid state physics, basic physics with predefined interaction paths. Supports player actions with various items "lying" on the level, partially destructible environments, ragdoll physics to simulate death, vehicle physics, fabric physics to animate clothes, sound effects of interaction with objects, the level of detail of physics (allows you to adjust the degree of interaction with objects , from least to most difficult to conserve resources).

Next, we invite you to get acquainted directly with the testing of modern hardware in the game.

Less productive video cards up to the level of GeForce GTS 450 and Radeon HD 4870 are tested based on Core 2 Quad Q9550 and Phenom II X4 940 BE processors, depending on the resource intensity of the game, and more productive ones based on more powerful solutions. Overclocked versions of video cards presented by sponsors were equated to conventional counterparts by reducing their clock speeds.

CoJ_TheCartel_2011_09_08_10_08_51_631

Our video cards were tested at a resolution of 1920x1080 with maximum graphics quality settings. NVIDIA 3D Vision technology has not been tested due to lack of driver support. AMD Eyefinity was tested on three monitors at a resolution of 5760x1080. The efficiency of Cross Fire is zero, but SLI gives quite a serious increase.

Testing at maximum quality settings 1920x1080

coj_1920

With maximum graphics quality settings, a decent level of performance in the game will be shown by the tops of 3 years ago, Radeon HD 3870 or GeForce 9800 GT. I involuntarily recall Call of Juarez DirectX 10 Benchmark, which on Chrome Engine 3 gave heat to the Radeon HD 4870 or GeForce GTX 280...

Testing with AMD Eyefinity Technology

CoJ_TheCartel_2011_09_09_08_04_24_067

All our video cards were tested at maximum quality settings on three Full HD monitors combined thanks to Eyefinity technology at a resolution of 5760x1080. You can evaluate the quality of performance in this mode in the screenshot above...

Testing at maximum quality settings using AMD Eyefinity technology on three monitors at a resolution of 5760x1080

coj_5760

With the use of Eyefinity technology, the performance of cards is reduced within 55-65% of the standard mode, depending on the model of the video card. For comfortable playability in this mode, video accelerators of the Radeon HD 5770 level are required, and for the optimal Radeon HD 6850 and higher.

Processor dependency testing

CoJ_TheCartel_2011_09_08_10_09_20_848

We tested processor dependence on 10 models of basic configurations, which are the most relevant today. The test was carried out in those places where the value of the video card for the game is minimal and its load was less than 99%, this time at a resolution of 1920x1080 at maximum quality settings.

Testing at maximum quality settings 1920x1080

coj_pr

All our tested processor models showed a decent level of performance. The game engine is optimized for multi-core and the optimal number for the best performance is four CPU cores.
