Dying Light is an action-packed, first-person survival game. The game takes place in a huge and dangerous open world. During the day, you roam the city, devastated by a mysterious epidemic, trying to find ammunition and craft weapons that will help you fight the hordes of mindless bloodthirsty enemies generated by the plague.

At night, the hunter himself becomes the prey, as the strength and aggressiveness of the infected grows. But even more deadly are nocturnal predators of non-human origin, leaving their lairs in search of food. You will have to apply all your skills and use any means to survive until dawn.

THE GRAFICAL PART

In this subsection of our review, the main graphical aspects of this game are revealed. Particular attention is paid to the version of the graphics engine used, the version of the API used, graphics settings and the quality of the development of the main visual aspects.

Supported OS and graphics API

Dying Light is supported by major Windows operating systems, which include Windows 7, Windows 8/10 and Linux. Other operating systems are currently not supported by developers.

Game engine 

Dying Light is based on the Chrome Engine 6 game engine. Chrome Engine is a series of game engines developed and maintained by the Polish company Techland. The first version of the engine was developed in 2003 for use in Techland's own fantasy 3D first-person shooter "Chrome". Later, the engine was successfully used by the company in games of other genres, not limited to shooters.

1C licensed the engine to collaborating developers, as a result of which it was used in the 4WD series of car simulators, as well as in the games Expedition Trophy: Murmansk-Vladivostok, Black Sea Rally and GM Rally. Another company, City Interactive, which develops and publishes games, uses Chrome in most of its developments. For example, in the shooters Code of Honor, The Hell in Vietnam, Mortyr 3, Sniper: Ghost Warrior, etc.

"Chrome Engine" is constantly being improved and finalized by the developer company. There are currently six versions of the game engine.

GPU test

All video cards were tested at maximum graphics quality by MSI Afterburner. The purpose of the test is to determine how video cards from different manufacturers behave under the same conditions. Below is a video of the test segment:   

Our video cards were tested at resolutions of 1920x1080, 2560x1600 and 3840x2160 at the maximum graphics quality settings allowed by the GPU Dying Light test. AMD CrossFireX and  SLI work seamlessly in the game . It is also worth noting that the maximum quality settings are not available for 2 GB solutions.

Almost all video cards are press samples from AMD and NVIDIA with stock frequencies. The exceptions are  MSI GeForce GTX 950 GAMING 2G , GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 960 WINDFORCE 2X 4G and XFX RADEON R9 380X DD BLACK EDITION

Testing of the video memory consumed by the game was carried out by the  MSI Afterburner program. The results on top video cards from AMD and NVIDIA were taken as the indicator at resolutions of  1920x1080 and 2560x1440 with various anti-aliasing settings.

The recommended amount of video memory usage for a resolution of 1920x1080 will be 4096 MB of video memory, for a resolution of 2560x1440 - 4076 MB of video memory and for a resolution of 3840x2160 about 6144 MB of video memory.

We tested processor dependence on 16 models of basic configurations that are relevant today. The test was carried out in those places where the value of the video card for the game is minimal and its load was less than 99%, this time at a resolution of 1920x1080.

Dying Light uses up to 10 computing threads.

RAM test

The test was conducted on the base configuration Core i 7 5960X @ 4.6 GHz with the amount of pre-installed memory 32 GB DDR4 2400 MGz. All used RAM was taken as an indicator. The RAM test on the entire system was carried out on various test benches without running extraneous applications (browsers, etc.).

As we can see, with various quality settings, the amount of RAM consumed in Dying Light is within 3500 megabytes.

With a 6 GB system, Dying Light consumes about 5 GB of RAM. In the presence of a system with 8 gigabytes, the RAM consumption of all RAM was 5.8 gigabytes. With a 16 GB system, total memory consumption was almost 6.9 GB. And with 32 gigabytes of RAM, the system consumes 7.7  gigabytes of RAM.
