We tested the release version of Outcast - A New Beginning at low, medium , high and ultra graphics settings, in DX11/12 modes, on the ASUS ROG Ally Extreme portable console and AMD Ryzen 5 8600G and AMD Ryzen 7 8700G processors

There were some technical challenges associated with Unreal Engine 4, including delays in loading and switching between scenes due to shader processing, which could negatively impact the smoothness of gameplay.

In response to these challenges, the final version of the game introduced a shader caching system, significantly reducing shader loading times and improving overall performance, especially on resource-constrained computers.   Here is our test bench, in which the tests were carried out:

This test used AMD Ryzen 5 8600G and AMD Ryzen 7 8700G processors and ASUS ROG Ally Extreme with an AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor , which is essentially an analogue of the AMD Ryzen 7 8700G , but with a much lower TDP . AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme this time was tested only in 25 Watt mode, since in lower modes the performance leaves much to be desired...

 Our video cards were tested at resolutions of 1920x1080 with low , medium, high  graphics settings and default graphics quality settings in the game. Tests were carried out on ASUS ROG Ally Extreme in operating modes of 10, 15W and 25W: 

Silent mode (10 W)

In this mode, the console operates at reduced power, which ensures minimal noise and increases battery life. Designed for use in environments where silence is critical or where maximum battery conservation is required.

Performance mode (15 W) :

This is an ideal mode for demanding games where maximum image quality and smooth gameplay are important. However, it should be taken into account that this mode will consume more energy, which will lead to faster battery drain.

In Performance mode the game runs for about 1.5 hours, and in Turbo mode just over an hour.

At high quality settings, the game is not particularly playable on built-in solutions.


Based on the test, we can conclude that "Outcast - A New Beginning" demonstrates significant demands on the system at high quality settings, especially on the graphics subsystem. For comfortable gaming on portable consoles such as ASUS ROG Ally Extreme and systems based on AMD Ryzen processors with integrated graphics, it is recommended to select medium or low graphics settings. However, to achieve an optimal gaming experience and enjoy the full beauty of the game world of "Outcast - A New Beginning", it is preferable to use discrete graphics solutions.
