The action takes place in 1998. Fans of the series know that this is the time when all the main events related to the T-Virus took place in Raccoon City. The game will now have a different character, about a man and a woman who were responsible for everything that happens. Instead of playing as BSAA agents smashing zombies to smithereens, we're thrown back into the midst of the T-Virus outbreak, to the events of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. 

The game does not require you to have deep knowledge of the plot and characters of past games in the series. In Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, we have to play as one of the four representatives of the Umbrella security squad. Operation Raccoon City is a team-based shooter where four members of the USS must destroy all evidence of the T-Virus outbreak. In addition to the extermination of zombies, you will need to kill everyone who tries to escape.

THE GRAFICAL PART

In this subsection of our review, the main graphical aspects of this game are revealed. Particular attention is paid to the version of the graphics engine used, the version of the API used, graphics settings and the quality of the development of the main visual aspects.

Supported OS and graphics API

Binary Domain is supported by major Windows operating systems, which include Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. Other operating systems developers are not currently supported and are unlikely to receive support. Actually, like all console porting products...

The priority and main graphics API is only DirectX 9, as the main component of console graphics. In this case, Capcom did not provide PC owners with any graphic goodies.

Game engine 

The game engine is an in-house product of the Slant Six Games studio. The computer version is a consequence of the console porting. Unfortunately, we could not find either the name of the engine or its characteristics.

Unfortunately, we could not find more detailed information about the game engine, except for visual observations.

Advanced game settings

Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City has almost no graphic settings settings. We can only change the resolution, anti-aliasing quality level, shadow quality, and texture detail.

As we can see, the difference between high and low settings in Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City is almost negligible.

General visual design and game physics

Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City is a solid project. It does not shine beyond manufacturability, but it does not represent a backward product either. This game does not support newfangled graphics chips, which is the result of presenting the game almost the same on all gaming platforms.

Especially qualitatively, the developers turned out models of game characters, although the physics of their movements at this stage leaves much to be desired. The controls in the game are rather mediocre - it's unpleasant to play on the gamepad, and uncomfortable on the keyboard and mouse.

GPU test

All video cards were tested at maximum graphics quality by MSI Afterburner. The purpose of the test is to determine how video cards from different manufacturers behave under the same conditions. The minimum and average FPS were taken as the performance indicator.   

Our video cards were tested at resolutions of 1680x1050, 1920x1080 and 2560x1600 at the maximum graphics quality settings allowed by the game. The game has an internal frame rate limit of 100 FPS. Multi-chip configurations from both manufacturers work without any problems. The minimum FPS for the GPU test was not taken in this case.

At a resolution of 1680x1050 at maximum settings, video cards of the Radeon HD 5750 or GeForce GTS 450 level showed an acceptable minimum FPS.

At a resolution of 1920x1080 at maximum settings, an acceptable FPS   was again provided by video cards of   the Radeon HD 5750 or GeForce GTS 450 level. 

Testing at maximum quality settings 2560x1600

At a resolution of 2560x1600 at maximum settings, the acceptable FPS increased significantly and it was able to provide  graphics cards like Radeon HD 7770 or GeForce GTX 560 . Special attention in our tests is worth mentioning our new debutant  GEFORCE GTX 680, which showed the leading performance among single-chip solutions, although  the Radeon HD 7970 lagged behind it purely symbolically...

Testing of the video memory consumed by the game was carried out by the  MSI Afterburner program. The results on top video cards from AMD and NVIDIA at resolutions of  1680x1050, 1920x1080 and 2560x1600 were taken as the indicator.

The optimal amount of video memory usage for this game is 512 for all resolutions.

We tested processor dependence on 12 models of basic configurations that are relevant today. The test was carried out in those places where the value of the video card for the game is minimal and its load was less than 99%, this time at a resolution of 11920x1080 with maximum graphics quality settings.

The processors were tested according to the scheme shown in the video above. By a strange coincidence, the FPS was in the region of 50 frames for all the tested models. And only the minimum FPS allowed us to establish the balance of power. 

As we can see, the performance mainly rests on the processor, not the video card...

RAM test

Testing of the RAM consumed by the game was carried out by monitoring directly through the Windows Task Manager. The test was conducted on the base configuration Core i 7 3930K @ 4.8 GHz with the amount of pre-installed video memory 8GB DDR3 2400 MGz.

As we can see, at various quality settings, the amount of RAM consumed in Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City is at the same level and is 800 megabytes.
