Official description of the game
A new action movie from the famous developer, Rebellion, which in 1999 released the famous game in which people, Aliens and Predators first came together in uncompromising battles. The battle continues – different forms of life will again meet in an irreconcilable struggle. Aliens vs Predator features three exciting story campaigns, as well as unforgettable multiplayer battles in which each race can use its own unique tactics. An insidious fate brought people together
Aliens and Predators on planet BG-386, where colonists discovered a mysterious ancient pyramid belonging to a race of ruthless hunters. The rightful owners of the structure sent a detachment to BG-386, which must at any cost prevent people from opening the securely sealed tomb. Players will find themselves in the midst of a brutal struggle, where some are trying to survive, others are trying to save the Universe, and others are simply hunting!
Review: Playability
In the Aliens vs. demo. Predator we learned almost nothing about the game, neither gameplay, nor plot, nor graphics. Now we can see firsthand the quality of work of the developers from Rebellion. We were not very pleased with the previous projects of this studio, so we were skeptical about the quality of Aliens vs. Predator. But as it turned out, our fears were exaggerated. The game did not manage to become a super hit, but perhaps it was a strong middling one.
In the game, we are presented with a choice of three companies for each individual race: human, alien and predator. And each of these races has its own distinctive characteristics, plus the plot of each of them is individual and unique.
Playing as a predator, you get the same feeling as from the game Crysis (having a nanosuit in the latter) – having considerable strength and a bunch of deadly chips, you feel confident and deal with your enemies in the blink of an eye. You truly feel like a wolf among sheep, and the bloody dismemberment of your opponents looks simply amazing. Of course, I never considered myself a sadist, but it looks really good…
As someone else, the game mode switches to stealth – you constantly need to move, hide and suddenly attack. You constantly feel like a maddened and wild animal. A very good simulator of wild animals, very wild animals… We did not even expect such a high-quality implementation of a company for strangers from the developers.
But he is a man and a man in Africa. Playing as him, you are haunted by the thought that you are a defenseless and helpless victim. And the game for this type of character is already turning into a real horror and keeps you in constant tension so much that while playing you involuntarily flinch from any rustle in the speakers or movement on the monitor…
Only slightly cramped locations spoil the overall opinion of the game. Overall Aliens vs. Predator is very versatile in all aspects and very well conveys the spirit of Hollywood films that once upon a time made the same unforgettable impression on us. We highly recommend it for playthrough, you will definitely enjoy the game.
Review: Game Graphics
The game engine is built on unreal engine 3 technology, so you shouldn’t expect a revolution in graphics from the game. Well, at least the developers’ hands were not crooked and the picture turned out to be very good.
In the demo version, we did not have the opportunity to touch the great and mighty DirectX 11, or even all the delights of game graphics. What has changed in the full version of the game? Support for DirectX 11 and tasseling has actually been implemented. If we specifically compare the game with and without tasseling activation, the differences in specific models are not very pronounced. And if you look at the generalized game picture during the game itself, it really looks more real and detailed.
The only drawback of the new API in the ATi 5XXX series is the complete unplayability of the picture in DirectX 9 mode – the entire screen on the 5-series cards, in our configuration, begins to shimmer with multi-colored stripes and playability is reduced to zero. Therefore, owners of new cards will have to either play in DirectX 11 mode (which in itself is very logical given the cards) or wait for the release of a patch from AMD developers and programmers.
But even if you don’t have a card that supports DirectX 11, you shouldn’t despair – the game picture will be excellent and you can get a lot of pleasure from the gameplay.
Review: Resource-intensive game
For Aliens vs. Predator you will need a Core 2 Duo 2,4 GHz processor or an Athlon 64 x2 5800. But the amount of RAM already matters and for a comfortable game you will need at least 3 gigabytes.
All video cards were tested at maximum graphics quality using Fraps. in the most resource-intensive place in the game. ATI cards of the fifth series were tested separately in DirectX 11 mode. They did not work well with DirectX 9 in the game, so we will present generalized performance with other video cards later, after fixing game bugs.
Our video cards are tested generally in all different types of screens and you can evaluate how your video card behaves relative to other modern solutions in almost all different types of gaming screens. All video cards were tested with maximum quality graphics settings.
Testing at maximum quality settings 1024×768 DX 9
Testing at maximum quality settings 1280×1024 DX 9
Testing at maximum quality settings 1680×1050 DX 9
Testing at maximum quality settings 1920×1080 DX 9
Although the game is under the patronage of AMD, Nvidia cards demonstrate much more impressive performance in DirectX 9 mode. In general, to play Aliens vs. Predator without brakes at maximum graphics settings will be quite enough at the level of hundred-dollar video cards.
Testing at maximum quality settings 1024×768 DX 11
Testing at maximum quality settings 1280×1024 DX 11
Testing at maximum quality settings 1680×1050 DX 11
Testing at maximum quality settings 1920×1080 DX 11
In DirectX 11 mode, ATI 5-series cards show a slightly higher level of performance than their predecessors. Finally, thanks to the use of DirectX 11, the HD 5770 and HD 4870 have come closer to each other in terms of price/performance ratio. So, as a bonus with the purchase of new video cards, you will definitely be guaranteed somewhat greater gaming performance. Therefore, for Aliens vs. Predator purchasing video cards from ATI of the new series will be completely justified.
All of our tested video cards were taken with a video memory capacity of 512 megabytes and higher. For resolutions above 1280×1024, in some places there was a lack of video memory on video cards. Even 5-series video cards with 1 gigabyte video memory in DirectX 11 mode in full HD experienced stuttering, which was caused by a lack of video memory. Therefore, for playing in high-screen environments, we recommend video cards with a video memory capacity of at least 1 gigabyte.
Conclusion: Aliens vs. Frankly speaking, Predator pleasantly surprised us. It’s been a while since we’ve been able to play something fresh and interesting. So for all fans of the FPS genre, the game is simply a must-play!
