DEVELOPMENT HISTORY

Search: History Untold — is an ambitious 4X strategy game that is being developed Oxide Games. The game was first presented to a wider audience at the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase in 2022 and immediately attracted the attention of players with its unusual approach to the genre and a deep alternative history system. The developers set themselves the task of creating a new experience in the world of strategies, avoiding the typical limitations of traditional 4X games and paying special attention to cultural peculiarities, diplomacy and freedom of choice.

Inspired by the series Civilization, where many of the team members worked, Search: History Untold aims to offer players a more flexible progression system. The development process began with finding a balance between traditional mechanics familiar to fans of the genre and the introduction of innovative solutions. In the early phase, the developers created a physical tabletop version of the game to test the main concepts and game mechanics. This helped speed up the iterations and understand which elements could be improved in the digital version. This approach allowed the developers to understand at an early stage which solutions work best to create a rich gameplay experience and avoid typical mistakes that are often found in other strategies.

Search: History Untold is distinguished by its unique approach to technology research. Unlike many strategy games that use a linear technology tree, this game develops in a non-linear manner. This allows players to adapt their civilization to current needs and external conditions, rather than following a predetermined path. For example, one civilization may focus on the development of navigation and trade, while another chooses to focus on military technologies. The variety of approaches makes each playthrough unique.

GRAPHICS

Graphic component Search: History Untold — This is one of the game’s strong points, which sets it apart from other 4X strategies. The developers used modern technology to create a visually rich world that highlights the uniqueness of each region, culture, and civilization. The game features a variety of biomes: from deserts to mountain ranges and forests, which creates a sense of scale and liveliness of the world. Cartographic elements such as rivers, lakes, and oceans are highly detailed, and each section of the map has its own unique aesthetic, complementing the overall impression of the gameplay.

Fog, rain and even snowstorms present in the game not only add atmosphere, but also complicate the players’ strategic decisions. All this provides a high degree of immersion in the gameplay, where each move seems to be part of a living world.

Additionally, the unique architectural styles of each civilization have been carefully crafted to visually reflect their cultural characteristics. Cities and settlements look organic, changing and evolving over time, allowing players to see their civilization’s progress in real time.

Testing of video memory consumed by the game was carried out by the program MSI Afterburner. The indicator was based on the results on video cards from AMD and NVIDIA with separate screen sizes 1920×1080, 2560×1440 and 3840×2160 with various anti-aliasing settings. By default, the graph displays the most current solutions. Other video cards are added and removed from the schedule at the request of the reader.
