Official description of the game

Battlefield Bad Company 2™ brings the brilliant combat of the Battlefield series to PC and next-gen consoles – and presents the best military combat in the history of the genre across 8 huge maps, each with a unique tactical scenario.

BFBC2Game_2010-02-27_22-53-16-75

Preserving all the best traditions of the series, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 offers fans of the game a lot of new interesting features. You will have to fight in a variety of conditions: in snowy forests and impenetrable jungles, in hot deserts and inaccessible mountains, which requires the use of appropriate tactics. Players will also be able to implement unique tactics using new types of equipment in battle, including an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) and a UH-60 transport helicopter. In addition, the project provides ample opportunities for modifying equipment and various devices, which will significantly expand the number of available sets of equipment, weapons and combat vehicles. Thanks to the improvements made by the developers to the unique Frostbite graphics engine, the game uses modern visual effects and a realistic damage system.

Review: Playability

Finally, we have waited for the release of one of the most anticipated shooters of 2010 – Battlefield: Bad Company 2, which, according to the developers, is the killer of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Now we will try to identify those points in which Bad Company 2 was able to surpass their competitors.

BFBC2Game_2010-02-27_23-43-08-19

The first and most important thing for which it was created is a powerful multiplayer mode. There has never been such a monster in this market segment before. The game cards are simply huge. Online battles are done and staged in such a way that while playing you begin to believe in the reality of what is happening on the monitor. Everything is thought out to the smallest detail and every small detail can affect the course of the battle between the opposing sides. So if you are an ardent fan of online battles, then Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is a must-buy for you.

BFBC2Game_2010-02-28_11-59-04-55

Now it’s the turn of the single. The game has such a strong single-player component that its multiplayer mode feels more like an added bonus than a core part of the game. The developers even managed to connect two time periods in the game, thereby recreating a small backstory of the game and showing us a small logical beginning.

BFBC2Game_2010-02-28_22-40-01-96

Game very look like on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Here we play as the same character, who is constantly accompanied by the same comrades. This creates the effect of cover – you feel that you are not alone and your friend in the squad can back you up at any moment. This makes the experience less stressful and more enjoyable. The game contains a lot of dark humor and bad language, so we advise you to keep this game away from children.

BFBC2Game_2010-02-28_23-41-47-03

I’m very pleased with the variety of game locations, the spectacle of the battles, and the cinematic plotting of the plot. We can state the fact that recently the quality of games has begun to gradually improve.

We invite you to check out part of the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 video, where you can see for yourself the quality of this product:

The gaming side of the project turned out to be simply magnificent, now we’ll see what the graphics of the game turned out to be…

Review: Game Graphics

The graphics in Battlefield: Bad Company 2 did not lose face, and showed us what we can docDevelopers from DICE studio have been added. Of course, it didn’t manage to reach the level of Crysis, but it’s still a kind of small leap in shooter development over the past few years after a long-term stagnation.

BFBC2Game_2010-02-28_23-55-08-00

Let’s start with the differences between the different versions of DirectX. DirectX 9 mode completely lacks support for full-screen anti-aliasing. Developers are already starting to gradually move away from the old man. Plus DirectX 10 and DirectX 11 have a more improved particle system compared to its predecessor.

BFBC2Game_10_vs_11_vs_9

The picture in DirectX 9 mode looks really unsightly and is visually much inferior to its receivers. Well, the difference between the DirectX 10 version and DirectX 11 can be seen in more realistic shadows. In version 11 they look much softer and smoother.

BFBC2Game_10_vs_11

But we think this is somehow absurd. Sometimes, as the game progresses, the shadows begin to shimmer with some kind of square textures. Did they really learn to make shadows only with the advent of DirectX 11? But what then did we see in other games where shadows were completely normal in both DirectX 9 and DirectX 10? It shows either the lack of smoothness of the game engine, or the malicious intent of the developers…

BFBC2Game_2010-03-01_00-05-32-22

The physics in Battlefield: Bad Company 2 turned out to be simply magnificent and almost everything is destructible. Even a wall or concrete ceiling cannot be considered a reliable shelter – with heavy enemy fire, only memories remain of them…

Review: Resource-intensive game

For Battlefield: Bad Company 2 you will need a Core 2 Quad 3,0 GHz or Phenom II x4 925 processor2.8GHzand a RAM capacity of 2 gigabytes. The game engine loves the resources of your processor and will try to squeeze all the juice out of it

All video cards were tested at maximum graphics quality using Fraps. in the most resource-intensive place in the game.

BFBC2Game_2010-02-28_23-59-30-79

The first tests were carried out in DirectX 9 mode without activating full-screen anti-aliasing, since it is not supported in this mode. Subsequent tests in DirectX 10/11 modes were carried out with full-screen anti-aliasing activated at 8X. Tests were carried out only at resolutions of 1280×1024 and 1920×1080 in order to avoid cluttering the game review and labor-intensive work.

It is very clear that the game favors Nvidia video cards. And the GeForce GTX 275 video card shows performance slightly superior to the Radeon HD 5850, although the latter is much more expensive. But these indicators are so high that even at maximum graphics quality settings at a resolution of 1920×1080, video cards of the level of GeForce 8800 GS or Radeon HD 3850 are quite enough. So such dominance can hardly be called a priority.

Now let’s move on to a more complex graphics mode, namely DirectX 10.

1280_10

Testing at maximum quality settings 1920×1080 DX10

GeForce video cards are still in the lead, but their leadership is no longer as dominant. And to obtain maximum picture quality, you will need a completely different price segment. The level of GeForce 8800 GS or Radeon HD 3850 is not even enough for a resolution of 1280×1024. And for a resolution of 1920×1080 you will already need video cards of the GeForce GTS 250 or Radeon HD 4870 level and higher.

Everything would be fine and we would play on DirectX 10 and enjoy the highest quality picture, but that’s not the case. The poor implementation of shadows is simply depressing and the most realistic picture comes out only in DirectX 11 mode, the tests of which are given below.

Testing at maximum quality settings 1280×1024 DX11

For now, only generation 5XXX Radeon video cards will be able to provide the most attractive picture. For a resolution of 1280×1024, a Radeon HD 5750 is easily enough, but for 1920×1080 you will need at least a Radeon HD 5830. And then all modern single-chip Radeon video cards could not avoid FPS drawdown and dropped below the 25 frames limit. Seeing that the older generation GeForce video cards show quite decent results, we can assume that the Fermi generation will provide unsurpassed performance with the highest picture quality. Buying video cards with DirectX 11 support in this game is more justified than in Aliens vs. Predator – the difference in the picture is really noticeable here.

Conclusion: The game turned out damn good. We got a great mixture of gameplay and wonderful graphics. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is a must-buy.
