CD Projekt Winds Down Support for Cyberpunk 2077 with Final Major Update 2.1
CD Projekt Red has reached a pivotal moment with its acclaimed title Cyberpunk 2077. The studio confirmed that Patch 2.1, scheduled for release on December 5, 2023, will be the "last major update" for the game. This patch is set to enhance the Cyberpunk 2077 experience significantly, introducing a full-fledged metro system with five lines and 19 stations, revamped boss fights, and a host of other improvements.
The update promises to transform the Night City metro from a mere fast-travel option to a real-time travel experience, adding depth to the game’s immersive world. Furthermore, Patch 2.1 will include features allowing players to call partners and spend time with them, though CD Projekt Red has not divulged specifics about this option. Players can also look forward to five new motorcycles and a Porsche 911 convertible, complete with a mini-quest. The update enhances motorcycle physics, enabling actions like using throwing knives, performing flips, and wheelies.
Another notable feature is the introduction of a portable radio implant, enabling players to enjoy music outside of vehicles, with broadcast interruptions limited to quests and certain combat scenarios. The update also allows players to replay the “Beast in Me” racing mission for new rewards and improved records.
Beyond Patch 2.1, CD Projekt Red's focus will shift to new ventures, including the next installment of The Witcher series, codenamed Polaris, and the continuation of the Cyberpunk 2077 franchise. The company confirmed in May 2023 that former Cyberpunk 2077 staff would join the development of Orion, as well as the next Witcher, indicating a significant reallocation of resources towards these upcoming projects.
Patch 2.1 represents a culmination of efforts to refine Cyberpunk 2077, a game that has undergone substantial evolution since its initial release in December 2020. With this update, CD Projekt Red aims to leave a lasting impression on the game's fans, setting the stage for its future endeavors in the gaming world.
