Homeworld 3 development history
Homeworld 3 is the long-awaited continuation of the cult strategy series, embodied by the Blackbird Interactive studio, which united the creators of the original games in the series. The official announcement of the development was made in 2019. The developers have taken on the ambition of not only reviving the spirit of the original games, but also significantly expanding their capabilities.
A special feature of the development of Homeworld 3 was active interaction with the fan community through the Fig crowdfunding platform, which allowed the developers to directly take into account the wishes and ideas of players. This interaction turned out to be key in shaping the game mechanics and filling the plot. The development process was complicated by the COVID-19 pandemic, but the team managed to adapt to remote work while continuing to work hard on the project.
Throughout the process, special attention was paid to creating challenging space battles, improving artificial intelligence, and developing an exciting both single-player and co-op campaigns.
Homeworld 3 graphics
With the transition to Unreal Engine 4, Homeworld 3 received significant graphical improvements. Unreal Engine 4 is known for its powerful ability to create detailed and visually impressive scenes. In Homeworld 3, this engine enabled realistic lighting, complex textures and advanced visual effects that transformed space and combat.
Every ship, asteroid and space object has been detailed, and large-scale battles have become even more spectacular thanks to improved visual and sound effects. The engine supports advanced physics models and realistic interaction between objects in space, allowing players to control huge fleets and use complex tactics in real time. The engine’s modularity and flexibility also allows for easy integration of new graphics and gameplay features, making Homeworld 3 available across multiple platforms and graphics settings.
The transition to Unreal Engine 4 had a significant impact on the development of Homeworld 3, allowing the developers to create a more dynamic, visually rich and technologically advanced game that meets modern standards in the video game industry.
