Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a new open-world first-person adventure medieval RPG game from former employees of Bohemia Interactive, 2K Czech and Altar Interactive powered by the CryENGINE engine. The game will offer a non-linear story, a revolutionary melee combat system and a living world.
The action will take place in the Holy Roman Empire at the end of the Middle Ages, where there is no magic, monsters, dragons, enchanted weapons and other attributes of “medieval” fantasy. The developers promise to immerse players in a harsh and brutal struggle for power. In addition to battles of varying scale and significance, you will have to establish connections and improve your reputation.

This subsection of our review highlights the main graphical aspects of this game. Particular attention is paid to the version of the graphics engine used, the version of the API used, graphic settings and the quality of development of the main visual aspects.

GAME ENGINE |
Kingdom Come Deliverance uses the CryEngine (4th generation) game engine developed by Crytek, which was first introduced in 2013 and has been constantly improved since then. The original game, released in 2006, used the id Tech 4 engine. At that time, Human Head Studios modified the engine by adding a dynamic portal system. According to Pete Hines, Bethesda’s head of marketing, Prey 2 (prior to restarting development) did not use id Tech 5 because the engine was not ready at the time of the game’s development, as it was itself in development.
This is a powerful set of tools that works on all major platforms and allows the developer to focus on the game and not bother with the technical part. CryEngine was used to create groundbreaking trilogies such as Crysis and Ryse.
CryEngine 3 was officially announced on March 11, 2009, and the official release of the engine took place on October 14, 2009. The first game for which the use of CryEngine 3 was announced is the first-person shooter Crysis 2 from Crytek. At the end of March 2010, in an interview with GameReactor magazine, Cevat Yerli said that developers from Crytek had to face a number of problems when developing CryEngine 3 for consoles: “The most difficult thing was the process of scaling CryEngine 3 for consoles while maintaining picture quality and the proper level of performance. Of course, there were challenges, but we are very proud that our team was able to overcome them.”
Shaders in CryEngine 3 are written once in a high-level programming language, and then automatically compiled for each platform. Shader output is optimized through artist settings and for the 3D environment in which the shader will be used. Thanks to this, it becomes possible to create effects such as the “invisibility effect”, wet, dirty and frozen surfaces, which can be “layered” on top of each other and combined with other shaders that simulate effects such as metal, glass and others. CryEngine 3 supports real-time per-pixel lighting, reflections, refractions, volumetric heat effects and animated textures to simulate windows, bullet holes, surfaces with sun glare and many other effects. CryEngine 3 shaders use a unified shader architecture that has been available since Direct10D XNUMX.
“Ubershader” is a single shader program with many features: from one to four lights, light types, specular cubemaps, fog, detailed textures, normal maps, specular textures, etc. Millions of Ubershader combinations can be generated. Ubershader uses dynamic branching, splitting into multiple passes, reducing combinations, and accepting options with less functionality and lower performance requirements. Uses asynchronous shader compilation and a distributed task system to compile the shader cache.

Our video cards were tested at different screen sizes of 1920×1080, 2560×1600 and 3840×2160 Ультра graphics quality settings. We would also like to draw your attention to the fact that high-resolution textures were added to the test, which appeared in the game much later than the release and were not used in our first test.

A minimum FPS of at least 25 frames can be provided by video cards of the Radeon R9 290 or GeForce GTX 970 level. A comfortable average FPS of 60 frames can be provided by solutions of the Radeon RX Vega 56 or GeForce GTX 1070 level.
When resolved 2560×1440 an average FPS of 25 frames was shown by video cards of the Radeon RX 570 or GeForce GTX 1060 level. A minimum FPS of at least 25 frames can be provided by video cards of the Radeon R9 Fury X or GeForce GTX 980 Ti level. A comfortable average FPS of 60 frames can be achieved by solutions at the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti level.
When resolved 3840×2160 average FPS of 25 frames showed level video cards Radeon RX Vega 64 or GeForce GTX 1080. Minimum FPS of at least 25 frames can be provided by video cards of the level Radeon RX Vega 64 LC or GeForce GTX 1080 Ti.
VIDEO MEMORY CONSUMPTION |
Testing of video memory consumed by the game was carried out by the program MSI Afterburner. The indicator was based on the results on video cards from AMD and NVIDIA with separate screen sizes 1920×1080 and 2560×1440 with different anti-aliasing settings. By default, the graph displays the most current solutions. Other video cards are added and removed from the schedule at the request of the reader.

When using video cards AMD an acceptable figure of at least 25 frames was shown by the Ryzen 3 1200 or Core i 5 2500 processors, and an average FPS of 60 frames can be achieved by the Ryzen 7 1800X or Core i 5 8600 solutions.
