Once again, the Codemasters studio decided to please fans of Formula 1 racing with a new game, this time dedicated to the 2018 season. Yes Yes. We are talking about the racing simulator F1 2018…

Once again, at the end of summer, developers are releasing a new version of the seasonal racing simulator based on Formula 1. New graphics, awesome special effects, an incredible number of licensed tracks, pilots that exist in reality, and of course, cars that can accelerate to incredible speeds - all this is still far from a complete list of what awaits fans in the new part of the series.

THE GRAFICAL PART

In this subsection of our review, the main graphical aspects of this game are revealed. Particular attention is paid to the version of the graphics engine used, the version of the API used, graphics settings and the quality of the development of the main visual aspects.

F1 2018 is supported by Windows 7/8 and  Windows  10.

GAME ENGINE

F1 2018, like all the latest games from this studio, was developed on a modified EGO engine version 4.0. EGO is a game engine modified from the Neon engine used in the Colin McRae: DiRT game developed by Codemasters and Sony Computer Entertainment using Sony's PhyreEngine cross-platform graphics engine. The engine is focused on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 hardware and software platforms.

On July 6, 2009, Brian Marshall, CTO of Codemasters, officially announced that the PC version of DiRT 2, which will use the "EGO" engine, will add support for DirectX 11. Thus, the "EGO" engine became the first engine for which DirectX 11 support has been implemented.

All video cards were tested at the maximum graphics quality by the Action! program. The purpose of the test is to determine how video cards from different manufacturers behave under the same conditions. Below is a video of the test segment :

 Our video cards were tested at resolutions of 1920x1080, 2560x1600 and 3840x2160 at maximum graphics quality settings.

 In the test of video cards, the default resolution is 1920x1080, other resolutions are added and removed manually. You can also remove and add any positions of video cards. You can also choose any of our test processors from the list in the drop-down menu, comparing its performance with the given video card tests (by default, the most productive solution is selected).

At a resolution of  1920x1080,   an average FPS of 25 frames was shown by video cards of the Radeon RX 460 or GeForce GTX 1050 level. A  minimum FPS of at least 25 frames can be provided by video cards of the Radeon R7 370 or GeForce GTX 1050 Ti level . A comfortable average FPS of 60 frames can be provided by solutions like the Radeon RX 480 or GeForce GTX 1060.

At a resolution  of 2560x1440,  an average FPS of 25 frames was shown by video cards of the Radeon R7 370 or GeForce GTX 1050 level .  A minimum FPS of at least 25 frames can be provided by video cards of the Radeon R9 380X or GeForce GTX 960 level  . A comfortable average FPS of 60 frames can be provided by solutions of the Radeon R9 Fury X or GeForce GTX 980 Ti level.

At a resolution  of 3840x2160,  an average FPS of 25 frames was shown by video cards of the  Radeon RX 570 or GeForce GTX 1060 3G level.  A minimum FPS of at least 25 frames can be provided by video cards of  the Radeon R 9 Nano or GeForce GTX 1060 6G level. A comfortable average FPS of 60 frames can be provided by solutions of the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti level.

VIDEO MEMORY CONSUMPTION

Testing of the video memory consumed by the game was carried out by the  MSI Afterburner program. The results on video cards from AMD and NVIDIA at resolutions of  1920x1080 and 2560x1440 with various anti-aliasing settings were taken as the indicator. By default, the graph displays the most up-to-date solutions. Other graphics cards are added and removed from the chart at the reader's request.
