Overview: Playability

F1 2010 is a new game based on the 2010 Formula 1 season. The game is a sequel to F1 2009 based on the same series. The game was released in September 2010 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Windows platforms. Codemasters confirmed development on April 23, 2009.


Compared to existing projects today, Formula 1 2010 is like Colin McRae: DiRT 2 with an admixture of Formula 1 video broadcasts. DiRT 2 got the game engine and game style - the same shed on wheels, but with the bonus of its own manager . Departure from the dock and arrivals for repairs look very impressive, which gives the game its own charm.


Depending on the level of difficulty, it changes the very principle of the game. At an easy level, the game is more like an arcade game: the computer automatically speeds up or slows down the car depending on the situation, so boldly, we press on the gas and steer right or left. As the level of difficulty increases, the requirements for driving increase proportionally, so you will have to work hard here.


Arcade players have nothing to do in this game - the game will get bored after a few races, if not even earlier. Review: Game Graphics

The Formula 1 2010 game engine is based on EGO 1.5, which is also used in Colin McRae: DiRT and Race Driver: GRID. EGO is a game engine modified from the Neon engine used in the Colin McRae: DiRT game developed by Codemasters and Sony Computer Entertainment using Sony's PhyreEngine cross-platform graphics engine. The engine is focused on PC (Windows), Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 hardware and software platforms.


On July 6, 2009, Bryan Marshall, CTO of Codemasters, officially announced that the PC version of Colin McRae: DiRT 2, which will use the "EGO" engine, will add support for DirectX 11. Thus, the engine "EGO" became the first engine for which DirectX 11 support was announced. The second product, as you can guess, was Formula 1 2010...


But to be honest, the difference between DirectX 9 and DirectX 11 modes, as in the case of Colin McRae: DiRT 2 is almost impossible to see, so owners of not the most recent cards need not worry about buying a new video card ... At the end of July 2010, Senior Vice- Codemasters President Jamie MacDonald told Develop in an interview about the company's new games being developed using EGO 2.0, the second iteration of the engine. According to him, at this point the company is actively developing the engine.


 And maybe in EGO version 2.0 we'll see more proof of DirectX 11's advantage over its predecessors, although maybe we'll see a new cross-platform equalization. So we will be able to see all subsequent games from Codemasters either on an updated graphical shell, or with the same picture on all gaming platforms...

  Review: Game resource intensive

For a comfortable game in Formula 1 2010, you will need a Core 2 Duo 2.83 GHz or Phenom II X2 540 processor and 2 gigabytes of RAM. Multithreading in the form of more than 2 is used, but not a prerequisite.

 All video cards were tested at maximum graphics quality by the Fraps program in the most resource-intensive part of the game. Lower performance graphics cards are tested based on the Core 2 Quad Q9550 processor, while higher performing graphics cards are based on the Core™ i7 processors.


This time our video cards were tested at 1280x1024 and 1920x1080 resolutions in DirectX 9 and DirectX 11 modes, and you can evaluate how your video card behaves relative to other modern solutions. All video cards were tested at the maximum quality of graphics settings with full-screen anti-aliasing enabled at the 8X level.

 At 1280x1024 in DirectX 9 at maximum quality settings, players will need video cards of the Radeon HD 3870 or GeForce GT 240 level.

Testing at maximum quality settings 1920x1080 DirectX 9


 At a resolution of 1920x1080, players will need cards of the Radeon HD 4830 or GeForce 8800 GTX level, so owners of mid-range cards can count on acceptable FPS.

When switching to DirectX 11 mode, Radeon cards take over and show a slight advantage when using them. The Radeon HD 5870 is faster than the GeForce GTX 480, while the Radeon HD 5850 shows a bigger lead over the GeForce GTX 470... 1280x1024 resolution will require you to have a video card like the Radeon HD 5750 or GeForce GTS 450.

When switching to HD resolution of 1920x1080, the alignment of forces does not change - Radeon cards dominate with a slight advantage. The Radeon HD 5750 or GeForce GTS 450 can again provide the most comfortable game without noticeable FPS drops.
