BASIC INFORMATION ON THE GAME

Although the game Project CARS was released relatively recently, the developers decided not to stop and very quickly released the second part of the game. Project CARS 2 features over 200 different tracks, more racing cars, and a brand new multiplayer mode that lets you race against other players.

The game has eight campaigns, corresponding to each racing discipline. Therefore, you can drive not only on tracks with a special coating, but also on real off-road, where instead of asphalt or concrete there is only impassable mud and swamp. This makes the game process even more interesting and intense, opening up new horizons for racers.

THE GRAFICAL PART

In this subsection of our review, the main graphical aspects of this game are revealed. Particular attention is paid to the version of the graphics engine used, the version of the API used, graphics settings and the quality of the development of the main visual aspects. 

SUPPORTED OC AND GRAPHICS API

Project CARS 2 is only supported on Windows 7/8/10. Other operating systems are currently not supported by developers and are unlikely to receive support.

The priority and primary graphics API for Project CARS 2 is  DirectX 11 .

GAME ENGINE

The technical basis of the Project CARS 2 project was the Madness cross-platform engine. Despite the fact that the main audience of the project are "hardcore" players, fans of the hardcore series Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport will have at their disposal a variety of assistants in the management.

Madness 

Project CARS uses a completely redesigned Madness graphics engine, known from the Need for Speed ​​Shift series, but the physics model was written from scratch and, as a result, the game lacks the buoyancy and input lags that have become a major cause of frustration for the racing community.

Thanks to modern computing power, the game will offer a fully dynamic tire model "SETA", which compares favorably with most modern simulators that use a static model, as well as a dynamic day and weather system.

All video cards were tested at the maximum graphics quality by the Action! program. The purpose of the test is to determine how video cards from different manufacturers behave under the same conditions. Below is a video of the test segment :  

 Our video cards were tested at resolutions of 1920x1080, 2560x1600 and 3840x2160 at the maximum graphics quality settings allowed by the game (ultra for all settings).

 In the test of video cards, the default resolution is 1920x1080, other resolutions are added and removed manually. You can also remove and add any positions of video cards. You can also choose any of our test processors from the list in the drop-down menu, comparing its performance with the given video card tests (by default, the most productive solution is selected).

At a resolution of 1920x1080,   an average FPS of 25 frames was shown by video cards like the Radeon R9 380X or GeForce GTX 1050 Ti. A minimum FPS of at least 25 frames can be provided by video cards of the Radeon R9 290 or GeForce GTX 780 Ti level. A comfortable average FPS of 60 frames can be provided by solutions like Radeon RX Vega 56 or GeForce GTX 980 Ti.

At a resolution of 2560x1440,   an average FPS of 25 frames was shown by video cards of the Radeon R9 380X or GeForce GTX 780 level. A  minimum  FPS  of at least 25 frames can be provided by video cards of  the Radeon RX 470 or GeForce GTX 1060 level . A comfortable average FPS of 60 frames can be provided by solutions like  Radeon RX Vega 64 or GeForce GTX 1080.

At a resolution of 3840x2160,   an average FPS of 25 frames was shown by video cards of the Radeon RX 580 or GeForce GTX 980 level. A  minimum  FPS  of at least 25 frames can be provided by video cards of the Radeon RX Vega 56 or GeForce GTX 980 Ti level

VIDEO MEMORY CONSUMPTION

Testing of the video memory consumed by the game was carried out by the  MSI Afterburner program. The results on video cards from AMD and NVIDIA at resolutions of  1920x1080 and 2560x1440 with various anti-aliasing settings were taken as the indicator. By default, the graph displays the most up-to-date solutions. Other graphics cards are added and removed from the chart at the reader's request.

When using  NVIDIA video cards, FX-6100 or Core i 3 2100  processors showed an acceptable rate of at least 25 frames  , and solutions of  the R3 1300 or Core i 5 4670 level can provide an average FPS of  60 frames  

When using  AMD  video cards , FX-8350 or Core i 5 2500 processors showed an acceptable rate of at least 25 frames , and  solutions of the R5 1600 or Core i 5 7600 level can provide an average FPS of  50 frames .

The test was conducted on the base configuration Core i 7 5960X @ 4.6 GHz with the amount of pre-installed memory 32 GB DDR4 2400 MGz. All used RAM was taken as an indicator. The RAM test on the entire system was carried out on various video cards without running extraneous applications (browsers, etc.). In the graphics, you can add and remove any resolutions and video cards as desired.
