In this subsection of our review, the main graphical aspects of this game are revealed. Particular attention is paid to the version of the graphics engine used, the version of the API used, graphics settings and the quality of the development of the main visual aspects.

Supported OS and graphics API

X Rebirth is supported by major Windows operating systems, which include Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8. Other operating systems are currently not supported by the developers.

The primary and primary graphics API for the X Rebirth multiplayer game  is DirectX 9. The game is distributed through the Steam digital game sale service. 

Game engine 

X Rebirth is based on the X³ Reality game engine, which was developed by Egosoft for use in their proprietary products.

Advanced game settings


X Rebirth  has various advanced graphics settings in its arsenal. There are several quality settings available in the game, and for each option they are individual: ultra, high, medium and low. You can flexibly manipulate individual settings, selecting for system performance.

What can I say, the difference between the various graphics quality settings in X Rebirth  is quite noticeable and at the maximum quality settings the picture looks more clear and detailed.
General visual design and game physics

X Rebirth is a fairly massive game, expanding in size to the limit of an entire universe and including a variety of worlds and space adventures. From the very start of the game, players have access to a huge and wide game world, in which, the most sophisticated users can get lost for several days...

Well, that's where the beauty of the game ends. On the other hand, at the moment the game has some shortcomings. The main one is an outdated engine based on DirectX 9, which does not allow you to fully reveal yourself, as it is very demanding on hardware. The second is the graphic component, which is practically unchanged from the last part, which includes the same visual settings.

GPU test

All video cards were tested at maximum graphics quality by PlayClaw 5. The purpose of the test is to determine how video cards from different manufacturers behave under the same conditions. The average and minimum FPS were taken as the performance indicator. Below is a video of the test segment:  

Our video cards were tested at 1920x1080, 2560x1600 and 3840x2160 resolutions at the maximum graphics quality settings allowed by X Rebirth. The tests were carried out with the AA 4X anti-aliasing mode (without anti-aliasing, the graphic stairs are very clear, surprisingly, even in 4K.). NVIDIA and AMD multi-chip configurations are not supported by the game.

With these settings,  video cards of the Radeon HD 7950 or GeForce GTX 660 Ti level showed an acceptable FPS. The optimal video cards will be solutions Radeon HD 7970 or  GeForce GTX 670  and higher.

With these settings,  video cards of the ARES II or GeForce GTX 780 level showed an acceptable FPS. GeForce GTX 780 and higher solutions will be optimal video cards.

With these settings,  an acceptable FPS was shown by the GeForce GTX 780 Ti video card.

Testing of the video memory consumed by the game was carried out by the  MSI Afterburner program. The results on top video cards from AMD and NVIDIA were taken as an indicator at resolutions of  1920x1080 and 2560x1600 with various anti-aliasing settings.

The recommended amount of video memory without anti-aliasing for a resolution of 1920x1080 will be 1280 MB of video memory,  for a resolution of 2560x1600 - 2048 MB of video memory and for a resolution of 3840x2160 about 3 GB of video memory. 

Micro Stuttering Test


Introducing our testing of FPS output latency on a Micro-Stuttering monitor. The results were taken on video cards from AMD ARES II and NVIDIA GTX 780 at a resolution of 1920x1080 with maximum image quality settings.

The latency of Micro-Stuttering is very poor. And if NVIDIA has them more or less, then AMD is simply catastrophic....

We tested processor dependence on 20 models of basic configurations that are relevant today. The test was carried out in those places where the value of the video card for the game is minimal and its load was less than 99%, this time at a resolution of 1920x1080 with maximum graphics quality settings.

X Rebirth has just brutal appetites, you can say that Intel processors are more suitable for this game.

The game practically does not use the capabilities of the CPU, the maximum can evenly load 4 cores, but again, it does not use their resources completely.

RAM test


The test was conducted on the base configuration Core i 7 3970X@4.9 GHz with 16GB DDR3 2400 MGz pre-installed memory. All used RAM was taken as an indicator. The RAM test on the entire system was carried out on various test benches without running extraneous applications (browsers, etc.).

As we can see, with various basic quality settings, the amount of RAM consumed in X Rebirth is at the level of 1600 megabytes.

On a 4GB system, X Rebirth consumes less than 3GB of RAM. In the presence of a system with 8 gigabytes, the RAM consumption  of all RAM was almost 3.3 gigabytes. With a 16 gigabyte system, the system memory consumption was almost 4 gigabytes.
