Official description of the game

Risen is a new game from the creators of the amazing Gothic role-playing game series, Piranha Bytes, developed according to all the traditions of the games of this company. Her calling is to become the heir to the game that has become a legend – Gothic. Although the game describes a completely new story, we still recognize the very first Gothic in the world of which we lived and still live. Add. information:

Risen_2009-11-25_12-18-15-44

Features:
• The game will be from a third person in the full tradition of role-playing games. The hero will be predetermined. The game will have a developed system of skills and characteristics, as well as an interesting non-linear plot. There will be no such races as orcs, elves, etc. Some of the animals will be in the fantasy style, some were invented by Piranhas specifically for the game. The player will be free to choose his path into several factions.
There will be no familiar Gods; instead, there will be some unknown force in the game.
• World. The new world that the hero has to discover is a fairly large island, full of life and mysteries, hidden mysteries and secrets. Сoallм is not as huge as in Gothic 3, it is more similar to the world of the 1st, or even 2nd Gothic. The island is full of surprises and dangers, as well as exciting and interesting tasks that can be completed in many ways.
The beautiful and varied landscape will make traveling around the island enjoyable and even more enticing. Huge dungeons, luxurious fortresses, dangerous swamps and living forests. All this awaits us in the world of Risen.
• Characters. In the new game we will see a large number of individuals. Well-developed intelligence will allow the player to produce various plot combinations. The inhabitants of the island will no longer be mere mannequins filling the space. The island lives and each character has a unique character and appearance.
• Plot. The plot of the game will be built according to the “branched linearity” type. And it will be a large ball of threads, which the player will have to unravel. The choice in each situation will influence the entire subsequent course of events.

Review: Playability

Well, a new RPG from the Pirania Byts studio has finally seen the light of day. After the failures of the last part of Gothic, the developers decided to come close to creating a high-quality project, and we can say that they succeeded. The game turned out to be entertaining and exciting, filled with a realistic, lively atmosphere of a fairy-tale world. The developers decided to abandon huge spaces in favor of a not very large, but well-made environment.

Most of the game’s components are taken from Gothic 3 and some users may assume that this is some kind of its clone, but in fact it is a completely independent and high-quality project. The plot of the game at first raises a vague doubt that we have already seen this somewhere, but then it gradually comes into its own gaming direction. The game world, its atmosphere and secrets arouse irresistible gaming interest – for which the developers are honored and praised.

Review: Game Graphics

Being the spiritual successor of Gothic, the game also received its graphics engine, but more improved and modernized. Of course I would like to see more recent ideas, but as they say, we have what we have. The character models, trees and landscape are not made at such a high level by modern standards, but the detailing of the buildings and the textures themselves is done at the proper level.

The handling of light and illumination, as well as the detailing of fogs and haze, are praiseworthy. Overall, the game’s graphics are at the proper level, which, coupled with a good game plot, makes it a good choice for gamers.

Review: Resource-intensive game

Well, that’s basically what we were going for and finally got there. In general, the game runs quite quickly on almost all maps, even at high resolution. For comfortable gaming you will need a Core 2 Duo 2.33 GHz processor.

But even if you do not have the opportunity to play on advanced modern hardware, then a single-core processor of the Conroe 2.0 GHz level will be quite enough, but at the same time there will be a tolerable decrease in performance and temporary slowdown.

old

Testing was carried out by the Fraps program by recording the average number of frames in the most resource-intensive part of the game. All video cards were tested at maximum graphics quality. We tested video cards from the lower price segment at a resolution of 1024×768, video cards from the middle price range were tested at a resolution of 1280×1024, and video cards from the upper price range were tested at a resolution of 1680×1050.

Testing at maximum Low End quality settings at 1024×768 resolution

1024

Not a single card from the lower segment could reach the coveted 25 frames…

Testing at maximum quality settings Midle End at 1280×1024 resolution

1280

Here we observe that more than half of the participants feel quite comfortable. Owners of video cards of level 8800 and higher will be able to play without any brakes.

Testing at maximum High End quality settings at 1680×1050 resolution

1680

Here we see that absolutely all video cards showed an acceptable level of frame transmission. Today’s single-chip leaders 5870 and 5850 show unprecedented performance compared to their competitors. From the above graphs you can see that the game runs a little faster on Radeon cards.

Final World : Piranhas, one might say, managed to make amends after their last failure, but still, trust had already been lost. They will have to work hard to restore their reputation. In total, 29% of tested video cards were unable to cope with their task. But sadly, 57% of the video cards we tested were not able to show an acceptable level of performance.
