GAME ENGINE

Amnesia: The Bunker is a first-person survival horror video game developed on the HPL Engine 3.5. In the game, the user explores the catacombs of a World War I bunker, playing as French soldier Henri Clément. The complexity and atmosphere of the game made it unique in its kind. It is important to note that this is one of the few games in its genre with a semi-open world and randomly changing elements, which ensures high repeatability of the passage.

The game takes place during the First World War. The player takes on the role of a French soldier, Henri Clement, who is trying to solve the mysteries of the bunker and at the same time find a way out of it. At the same time, the hero is equipped with a revolver and a noisy dynamo flashlight, which adds complexity and dynamics to the gameplay.

Amnesia: The Bunker was announced on December 1, 2022, and was originally scheduled for release in March 2023. However, the release date was pushed back several times, and finally the game was released on June 6, 2023.

During development, the developers released several gameplay trailers showing various game mechanics - interacting with a revolver, exploding a powder barrel with a flare, different ways to open doors, and fighting bunker rats with a gas grenade.

Game engine HPL Engine 3.5

HPL Engine 3.5 is an updated version of Frictional Games' popular game engine used in the Amnesia series of games. This engine has been specially optimized to create the horror atmosphere that is the hallmark of the games in the series.

In Amnesia: The Bunker, HPL Engine 3.5 allows for a semi-open world with randomly changing elements, which creates a unique environment for each new playthrough. This contributes to greater replayability and makes each game session unique.

Improvements in the HPL Engine 3.5 also allowed the game's creators to work more flexibly on scenario moments. Although the game contains little to no scenario events, the engine supports realistic physics models and interaction systems, allowing the player to interact with many objects in the game world.

One such example of interaction is the use of a gas grenade against bunker rats, demonstrated in one of the videos. Other examples of interaction are the use of a revolver and a dynamo flashlight, as well as various ways to open doors, which were demonstrated in previously released trailers.

Also HPL Engine 3.5 contributes to the creation of realistic and frightening lighting, which is a key element in creating an atmosphere of fear in games of this genre. This is enhanced by the use of a dynamo lantern, which is one of the hero's main tools in the game.

Overall, the HPL Engine 3.5 demonstrates its power and flexibility in Amnesia: The Bunker, providing deep and realistic interaction with the game world, a complex lighting system, and highly repeatable gameplay.

All video cards were tested at maximum graphics quality by MSI Afterburner. The purpose of the test is to determine how video cards from different manufacturers behave under the same conditions. Below is a video of the test segment

 Our video cards were tested at resolutions of 1920x1080 , 2560x1440 and 3840x2160 at maximum graphics quality settings. The game has a lock of 60 frames, but in the game config this limitation is easily bypassed.

In the test of video cards, the default resolution is 1920x1080, other resolutions are added and removed manually. You can also remove and add any positions of video cards. You can also select any of our test processors from the list in the drop-down menu, comparing its performance with the given video card tests (by default, the most productive solution is selected). The test is carried out on the most productive CPU in this game and is scaled to other processors, taking into account their testing on NVIDIA and AMD video cards.

Testing of the video memory consumed by the game was carried out by the  MSI Afterburner program. The results on video cards from AMD and NVIDIA at resolutions of  1920x1080, 2560x1440 and 3840x2160 with various anti-aliasing settings were taken as the indicator. By default, the graph displays the most up-to-date solutions. Other graphics cards are added and removed from the chart at the reader's request.
