GAME ENGINE |
" Lords of the Fallen " is the long-awaited sequel to the popular role-playing game released in 2014. The game was released on October 13, 2023, and is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows. In this review we will look at the main aspects of the game and its development.
Game process:
Lords of the Fallen is an action role-playing game with a third-person perspective. It gives players the ability to use melee weapons and magic, while the game's mechanics and combat system are heavily inspired by the Souls series. However, in addition to single player play, the game also offers a full-fledged cooperative mode for completing the story campaign. This allows players to join forces and explore the massive game world together.
One of the interesting features of the game is the large-scale game world, which is twice as large as that of the previous part. The world consists of two kingdoms: Axiom - the kingdom of the living, and Umbral - the kingdom of the dead. Switching between them occurs with the help of a magic lantern, as well as after the death of the player. If the player dies in the Shadow Realm, he is reborn at the last save point, losing accumulated experience. The game features a system for creating your own save points using materials collected from monsters in the realm of Umbral.
In addition, players can customize their characters using the character editor and choose from thirteen playable classes, each with unique features.
Development:
Development of the sequel began in December 2014, when Tomasz Gop, executive producer of the original game, announced the project. However, during development, the game encountered some difficulties. Initially, the release was planned for 2017, but after the failure of another project of the publisher - Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3, the team was cut, and the project moved to another studio - Defiant Studios. However, the collaboration with Defiant Studios also ended in failure, and in 2020 a new studio - Hexworks - took over development. They used the advanced Unreal Engine 5 to create the game.
The game was officially announced at Gamescom 2022, and since then it has gone through several changes, including a rename. The developers have expressed ambitious plans, aiming to create "Dark Souls 4.5" and set a new benchmark for the Soulsborne genre.
Development of the game took approximately four years and was completed remotely by more than 400 team members. The game supports DLSS and FSR technologies immediately at release. Among the game's features are 30 unique bosses, 194 types of weapons and shields, 76 spell catalysts, and 339 pieces of armor. The game will take about 30 hours to complete, and players will enjoy high replay value thanks to the New Game + mode, a variety of builds, 3 types of endings and many secrets.
Lords of the Fallen promises to provide players with a deep and rich world, rich in character customization options and exciting combat. Combining inspiration from Souls with its own unique concept, the game is sure to be an interesting experience for fans of the genre.
Unreal Engine 5:
Lords of the Fallen was created using the cutting-edge Unreal Engine 5. This engine is developed by Epic Games and is a powerful tool for creating next-generation games. Unreal Engine 5 offers improved graphics, supports DLSS and FSR technologies, which allows you to achieve high-quality visual effects and performance. Thanks to this engine,
" Lords of the Fallen " boasts impressive graphics, detailed environments and characters, as well as outstanding physics and lighting, creating an immersive gaming world. Unreal Engine 5 provides a high degree of realism and has the potential to create stunning visual effects.
This engine also has the tools to develop large and open worlds, which is obviously reflected in the large-scale world of Lords of the Fallen, presented in two different realms. The transition between these realms and the save system allow players to immerse themselves in diverse and exciting locations.
Unreal Engine 5 supports many technological innovations, including DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) and FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution), allowing gamers to enjoy stunning graphics without sacrificing performance.
The overall impression of "Lords of the Fallen" is enhanced not only by the interesting gameplay and rich game mechanics, but also by the visual aspects made possible by the use of Unreal Engine 5.
In conclusion, Lords of the Fallen promises to offer an exciting experience for fans of the action/RPG genre, and the use of Unreal Engine 5 provides the game with stunning graphics and visual effects. With a variety of bosses, weapons, and other features, the game provides players with the opportunity to immerse themselves in an immersive world and create unique characters, making it an interesting option for anyone who wants to experience new adventures in a dark and exciting fantasy world.
