Ultimate Epic Battle Simulator: PC Performance Benchmarks for Graphics Cards and Processors

UEBS Beta 2017 04 16 17 42 08 199

Release Date : 2017
Genre : Simulation, Strategy
Developer : Brilliant Game Studios
Publisher : Brilliant Game Studios

Ultimate Epic Battle Simulator is an epic sandbox game similar to the popular Totally Accurate Battle Simulator, only here you have no limits. You can create armies of unprecedented size. All restrictions rest only on the power of your computer. Create an army of many thousands, consisting of Romans, orcs, trolls or even penguins. The developers have tried to add several types of soldiers to make the game more interesting. Some types of units are beyond insanity. Another nice feature of UEBS is that during the battle you can personally control one of the units, thereby increasing your chances of winning.

In this subsection of our review, the main graphical aspects of this game are revealed. Particular attention is paid to the version of the graphics engine used, the version of the API used, graphics settings and the quality of the development of the main visual aspects.

Ultimate Epic Battle Simulator is supported on Windows 7/8 and Windows  10.

ue steam

The priority and primary graphics API for Ultimate Epic Battle Simulator is  DirectX 11 .

Ultimate Epic Battle Simulator runs on the Unity 5 game engine. Unity is a 2D and 3D application and game development tool that runs on Windows and OS X operating systems. Applications created with Unity run on Windows, OS X, Windows Phone operating systems , Android, Apple iOS, Linux, as well as game consoles Wii, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One. It is possible to create applications to run in browsers using a special Unity plug-in (Unity Web Player), as well as using the implementation of WebGL technology. Previously, there was experimental implementation support for projects within the Adobe Flash Player module, but later the Unity development team made the difficult decision to drop this.

Applications built with Unity support DirectX and OpenGL. The engine is actively used by both large developers (Blizzard, EA, QuartSoft, Ubisoft) and Indie game developers (for example, Pathologic remake), Kerbal Space Program, Slender: The Eight Pages, Slender: The Arrival, Surgeon Simulator 2013, Baeklyse Apps: Guess the actor, etc.) due to the availability of a free version, user-friendly interface and ease of working with the engine.

The project in Unity is divided into scenes (levels) - separate files containing their game worlds with their own set of objects, scenarios, and settings. Scenes can contain objects (models) as well as empty game objects - objects that do not have a model ("dummy"). Objects, in turn, contain sets of components that scripts interact with. Also, objects have a name (in Unity, two or more objects with the same name are allowed), there can be a tag (label) and a layer on which it should be displayed. So, any object on the stage must have a Transform component - it stores the coordinates of the location, rotation and size of the object along all three axes. Objects with visible geometry also have a Mesh Renderer component by default that makes the object's model visible.

In addition to free, there are four builds - standard Unity, Unity iOS Pro (for developing games for iOS), Android Pro and a team license. They differ in cost and functionality. The free version has some limitations, but it is possible to distribute games, provided that the annual income from the game does not exceed $100,000. With the release of Unity 5, many of the limitations of the Free version have been removed, but the annual income from the game must still not exceed $100,000.

Ultimate Epic Battle Simulator has a very modest range of graphics settings in its arsenal.

Below we have provided screenshots of the game at various graphics settings, where our readers can see the difference between the minimum and maximum graphics quality settings.

The difference between the settings is very clear.

The graphics in Ultimate Epic Battle Simulator are not bad, but still, the complete dampness of the pre-release version does not make sense to describe all its shortcomings.

All video cards were tested at the maximum graphics quality by the Action! program. The purpose of the test is to determine how video cards from different manufacturers behave under the same conditions. Below is a video of the test segment :

Our video cards were tested at resolutions of 1920x1080, 2560x1600 and 3840x2160 at maximum graphics quality settings (the default maximum for the game). SLI and  AMD CrossFireX are not yet supported by the game . Two squads of 2500 units each were selected for the test.

ue 1920 2

With these settings, video cards of the Radeon R9 290 or GeForce GTX 770 level showed an acceptable FPS.  Video cards of the GeForce GTX 980 level will be the best solutions.

ue 2560

With these settings, video cards of the Radeon R9 290X or GeForce GTX 770 level showed an acceptable FPS.  Video cards of the GeForce GTX 1060 6G level will be the best solutions  .

Testing at maximum quality settings  3840x2160

ue 3840

With these settings, video cards of the Radeon R9 Fury X or GeForce GTX 1060 level showed an acceptable FPS.  Video cards of the GeForce GTX 1080 level will be the best solutions.

Testing of the video memory consumed by the game was carried out by the MSI Afterburner program. The results on top video cards from AMD and NVIDIA were taken as the indicator at resolutions of 1920x1080 and 2560x1440 with various anti-aliasing settings.

Testing at  maximum  memory GPU quality settings

ue vram

The recommended amount of video memory usage for 1920x1080 resolution will be 4096 MB of video memory, for 2560x1440 resolution - 6144 MB of video memory and for 3840x2160 resolution about 6144 MB of video memory.

We tested processor dependence on 16 models of basic configurations that are relevant today. The test was carried out in those places where the value of the video card for the game is minimal and its load was less than 99%, this time at a resolution of 1920x1080.

The performance of the processors in the game is currently at an extreme level, but mainly rests on the video card ...

Ultimate Epic Battle Simulator uses up to 8 threads.

The test was conducted on the base configuration Core i 7 5960X @ 4.6 GHz with the amount of pre-installed memory 32 GB DDR4 2400 MGz. All used RAM was taken as an indicator. The RAM test on the entire system was carried out on various test benches without running extraneous applications (browsers, etc.).

Testing the game's RAM consumption at various quality settings

ue ram

As we can see, at various quality settings, the amount of RAM consumed in Ultimate Epic Battle Simulator was within 5500 megabytes.

Testing system RAM consumption

ue ram2

With a system with 8 gigabytes, EUltimate Epic Battle Simulator consumed 8 gigabytes of RAM (it is impossible to play with such a volume). In the presence of a system with 12 gigabytes, the RAM consumption of all RAM was 8.2 gigabytes. With a 16 GB system, total memory consumption was almost 8.2 GB. And with 32 gigabytes of RAM, the system consumes 10 gigabytes of RAM.
