Official description of the game

The identifying marks of RUSE are as follows: firstly, the IrisZoom engine, which allows you to look at the war both from the position of a soldier on the battlefield and “from the skies”, controlling huge armies and leading your nation to victory. A comparison with Supreme Commander is very appropriate here. Let’s say, how do you like the opportunity to take part in the landing in Normandy, recreated in detail and stretching over 100 virtual kilometers (!) in RUSE, not from the position of an ordinary soldier, but from the commander of an army? That’s it, it’s a good idea.

To defeat the enemy, as the press release assures, you will be able to use not only your brain and various maneuvers, but also unique skills – for example, activating “radio silence” or “camouflage,” thereby hiding your squad from the eyes and ears of the enemy. Or decipher the enemy’s negotiations and reveal the plan of his offensive operation. But gray matter is still needed – if only to simply cut off the enemy from supplies, take him in a vice and crush him like a bug.

RUSE_2010-03-11_15-56-16-92

The single-player campaign of RUSE will offer you to take part in the most prominent battles of the Second World War and take the side of one of six nations, divided into “Allies” and “Axis Powers”. Each has its own unique units and features.
Epic battles, huge levels transferred to virtual space with due care, career advancement from captain to commander-in-chief – all this will be in RUSE. Plus, there is an online part, represented by both “co-op” and the usual multiplayer battles “against each other”, designed for eight players.

Review: Playability

Well, as we noted earlier, it is very difficult to understand anything from the gameplay of the demo version of the game. RUSE Beta features a multiplayer component and one battle map. The company was not represented, so it is impossible to judge the development of the game plot.

RUSE_2010-03-11_15-56-27-93

As the developers stated, the game turned out to be quite large-scale. We have one huge game map, on which all combat events unfold. We want to fly from a bird’s eye view and give out commands left and right, but we want to go down and enjoy the view of the units swarming below. Although the second time will not be enough – the enemy is also not asleep and we constantly need to be aware of all events.

RUSE_2010-03-11_16-37-08-76

As in all games of this genre, we will need to capture sources of resources, build bases, barracks, additional buildings and defensive structures. The game does not last forever; we are given no more than 30 minutes for everything. So, to win, we either earn more points than the enemy, or inflict a crushing defeat on him…

We invite you to watch part of the RUSE Beta video, where you can see for yourself the quality of this product:

The game has a good variety of combat units, upgrades and all sorts of additional gadgets. So RTS lovers will have a place to roam. Although the game is made in a somewhat unusual style, the gameplay itself is really addictive. So for all tacticians, familiarization with RUSE will be very useful.

Review: Game Graphics

As described earlier, RUSE brought a hitherto unprecedented scale to the RTS genre. The game map is huge; huge territories can be located on it at the same time: cities, rivers, forests and mountains. In general, almost everything. And of course, the power of modern home PCs would hardly be enough to simulate an entire combat district. Therefore, one should not be surprised at the rather low level of detail, by modern standards.

RUSE_2010-03-11_16-54-10-41

The entire environment looks like arranged layouts. And this is very clearly visible when closely approaching the game map. The effects of explosions and physical models have only a conditional presence and are far from today’s implementations in top projects.

RUSE_2010-03-11_16-56-11-07

Of course, this does not mean that RUSE’s system requirements, as well as graphics, will be very low; on the contrary, huge locations will take their toll, resulting in a truly colossal load on your system. But we’ll talk about this a little further…

Review: Resource-intensive game

All video cards were tested at maximum graphics quality using Fraps. in the most resource-intensive place in the game.

Our video cards are tested generally in all different types of screens and you can evaluate how your video card behaves relative to other modern solutions in almost all different types of gaming screens. All video cards were tested with maximum quality graphics settings.

As we can see from the overall picture, RUSE puts forward quite serious requirements for modern video adapters. ATI video cards left Nvidia no chance. They literally smashed the enemy to smithereens. Even such a “seasoned” old man as the Radeon HD 4870 leaves the Ge Force GTX 285 far behind. So this time, owners of ATI cards can be pleased – the RUSE developers were able to find a rational use for the enormous shader potential of the Radeon.

Conclusion: RUSE looks like a very promising product. So those players who have long been hungry for worthwhile RTS strategies will be able to refresh their skills…
