DEVELOPMENT HISTORY

Satisfactory — is a project by Coffee Stain Studios, also known for its games Goat Simulator и Sanctum. The idea for the game came about in 2017, when the team wanted to create something new, different from their previous projects. From the very beginning, the developers sought to combine elements of economic strategies and construction, inspired by games like Factor, but at the same time transfer everything into a 3D world, giving players a more immersive and visually appealing experience. As a result, the concept was born Satisfactory, in which players can build giant factories and production lines on a mysterious planet.

FactoryGameSteam Win64 Shipping 2024 09 11 09 50 53 811

The development started small, but over time the project began to grow in scale. Coffee Stain Studios set itself the task of creating an open-world game that would allow players to build production chains, explore the planet and fight the local fauna. A key feature of the development was the creation of huge production chains and structures, which required thoughtful level design and resource management systems.

In 2018, the developers conducted closed alpha tests, and even then the game attracted the interest of gamers thanks to its innovative construction system and production line management. The project was announced on Epic Games Store, and entered early access in March 2019. Since then, the game has been regularly updated, adding new features, improving performance, and developing the game world.

FactoryGameSteam Win64 Shipping 2024 09 11 09 51 25 223

One of the important milestones in the development was the player community, which actively shared feedback and suggestions. Thanks to this approach, the game evolved with each update, offering players new mechanics such as logistics systems, transport, and advanced energy management.

GRAPHICS

Graphics Satisfactory impresses with its scale and level of detail. The game uses the engine Unreal Engine 5, which allowed for an incredible level of visuals for a game of this type. The graphics became one of the project’s strongest points, and with each update, Coffee Stain Studios continued to improve the visuals, textures, and overall picture of the world.

FactoryGameSteam Win64 Shipping 2024 09 11 09 51 46 302

Planets and Biomes Satisfactory are varied and detailed. Players can travel across a variety of landscapes, from green plains to mountain ranges and desert plateaus. The game’s many biomes are not only aesthetically pleasing, but also provide players with unique building and resource-gathering opportunities. Thanks to the use of Procedural Generation, each location is generated dynamically, which allows to preserve the uniqueness of the planets and avoid monotony.

Particular attention was paid to the lighting and shadow system. Use Lumen made it possible to add realistic lighting effects, especially in underground locations and factories, where artificial light sources play an important role. Now players can see how the light from lamps and equipment realistically interacts with objects, creating dynamic shadows and reflections.

FactoryGameSteam Win64 Shipping 2024 09 11 09 52 35 966

In addition, improved visual effects have been added for water, smoke and other elements that complement the atmosphere of the world and make the gameplay even more exciting. Explosions, the movement of mechanisms and even simple interactions with objects in the world Satisfactory look realistic and detailed.

GAME ENGINE

Satisfactory uses Unreal Engine 5, which gave developers a lot of opportunities to create detailed and large-scale worlds. This engine allowed developers to implement new rendering technologies, such as nanite — a system that improves the rendering of geometry without reducing performance. Thanks to this, the game can process large amounts of data, including a huge number of buildings, transport systems and units, without sacrificing the quality of the graphics.

FactoryGameSteam Win64 Shipping 2024 09 11 09 54 28 889

One of the key features of the engine is the system World Partitioning, which allows the game world to be broken down into separate “sections” that load as the player approaches. This solves the lag problem and increases the game’s performance, especially when players start building huge factories with lots of active elements.

For players who don’t have powerful graphics cards, the game supports Temporal Super Resolution (TSR) — a system that improves performance by maintaining high image quality even at low resolutions. This is similar to the technology Nvidia DLSS и AMDFSR, which are also supported in the game.

In addition, the engine provides complex physical interactions between objects, which is important for games with elements of construction and automation. Each object in the game has its own physical model, which takes into account weight, size and other parameters. This allows players to create complex production lines that function according to real physical laws.

FactoryGameSteam Win64 Shipping 2024 09 11 09 55 09 233

The engine also supports an extensive mod system that allows players to create their own scenarios, expanding the game’s capabilities. The modding community actively supports the game, offering new mechanics, interface and graphics improvements, making the game even more diverse and interesting.

DIFFERENT QUALITY MODES

Minimum settings

At minimum graphics settings Satisfactory The game looks simplified, but remains functional. Textures are less detailed, object draw distances are limited, and lighting and shadows look less realistic. These settings allow for stable performance on systems with minimal specifications, while still being able to enjoy the core gameplay.

Maximum settings

Maximum graphics settings provide sharper and richer textures, improved lighting effects and realistic shadows. Visual effects such as fog and glare make the surrounding world more believable. Distant objects are drawn with a high degree of detail, creating a sense of depth and scale of the world. Satisfactory.
