BASIC GAME INFORMATION |
release year: 2012
Genre: shooter
developer: Nadeo
Publisher: Ubisoft
The project is the next ManiaPlanet, which is made with an emphasis on the community, and will also include a professional map editor. The skills of the players in the project will play a key role in battle, where each experienced player will be able to show off their skills.
Shootmania Storm is being prepared for release this year by Nadeo and will be released exclusively for PC. At the same time, Ubisoft plans to engage in such serious development that the game can gain access to the global eSports arena, since the emphasis was placed on this point in the game initially.
THE GRAFICAL PART |
This subsection of our review highlights the main graphical aspects of this game. Particular attention is paid to the version of the graphics engine used, the version of the API used, graphic settings and the quality of development of the main visual aspects.
Supported OS and graphics API |
ShootMania Storm is supported by major Windows operating systems, which include XP, Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8. Other operating systems are not currently supported by developers and will not receive support.
The priority and main graphics API for ShootMania Storm is DirectX 9.
Game engine |
The game is based on the Nadeo’s engine, which was developed by Nadeo for use in its games. This engine is common to all games included in the ManiaPlanet service and graphics settings are changed directly in it or in the start launcher ManiaPlanet.
We did not find any more detailed information about the game engine, except for the data listed above…
Advanced Game Settings |
ShootMania Storm has quite wide graphical settings, thanks to which we can flexibly manipulate the performance of your system. Settings can be changed in the service itself ManiaPlanet, and in the launcher of this program itself.
Below we have provided screenshots of the game at various graphics settings, where our readers can see the difference between minimum, medium, high and maximum graphics quality settings.

Very high settings | ||

As we can see, the picture quality varies significantly between different settings and at maximum settings, as you would expect, the game is most attractive. |
General visual design and game physics |
ShootMania Storm has pretty mediocre graphics and, for a game that’s due out this year, it has very poor visuals. The game is designed for multiplayer and, to a large extent, for maps that were drawn up by the players themselves, the execution of which, frankly, is depressing…
The environment itself is quite highly detailed and contrasts with the design of the locations, but it is quite possible that we are somewhat mistaken and this is all just a matter of taste. There is practically no physics in the game as such – ShootMania Storm is literally an arcade project.
Well, then we will move directly to gaming tests and determine what impact this game has on modern computer hardware.

GPU test |
All video cards were tested at maximum graphics quality by the program FRAPS. The purpose of the test is to determine how video cards from different manufacturers behave under the same conditions. The average FPS was taken as a performance indicator. Below is a video of a test segment for video cards:
Our video cards were tested at different screen sizes of 1680×1050, 1920×1080 and 2560×1600 with the maximum graphics quality settings allowed by ShootMania Storm. The game does not support multi-chip configurations from AMD and NVIDIA and SLI this time works with very big problems and goes into the red…
Testing at maximum quality settings 1680×1050
At a resolution of 1680×1050 at maximum settings, the FPS indicator was acceptable and video cards of the Radeon HD 6790 level or GeForce GTX 550 Ti. The optimal video cards will be solutions Radeon HD 5850 or GeForce GTX 460 and above.
Testing at maximum quality settings 1920×1080
At a resolution of 1920×1080 at maximum settings, the FPS indicator was acceptable and the video cards showed the level Radeon HD 6790 or GeForce GTX 550 Ti. The optimal video cards will be solutions Radeon HD 5850 or GeForce GTX 460 and above.
Testing at maximum quality settings 2560×1600
At a resolution of 2560×1600 at maximum settings, video cards of the Radeon HD 6950 or GeForce GTX 560 Ti level showed an acceptable minimum FPS. The optimal video cards will be solutions Radeon HD 6970 or GeForce GTX 480 and above.
VRAM test |
Testing of video memory consumed by the game was carried out by the program MSI Afterburner. The indicator was based on results on top video cards from AMD and NVIDIA with separate screen sizes 1680×1050, 1920×1080 and 2560×1600.
Testing at maximum memory GPU quality settings
The optimal amount of video memory for this game is 1500 MB, but even on video cards with a smaller amount of video memory the game runs without problems, which is most likely a normal optimization of the operation of the video buffer with RAM.
CPU test |
We tested processor dependence on 12 models of basic configurations that are relevant today. The test was carried out in those places where the value of video cards for the game is minimal and its load was less than 99%, this time at a resolution of 1920×1080 with maximum graphics quality settings. The test was carried out online on a completed card.
Testing at maximum quality settings 1920×1080
ShootMania Storm, like Warframe, rationally uses only 2 CPU cores; the performance from additional cores is minimal, but still occurs.
RAM test |
Testing of the RAM consumed by the game was carried out by monitoring directly through the Windows task manager. The test was carried out on the basic configuration of Core i 7 [email protected] GHz with 8GB DDR3 2400 MGz pre-installed memory.
Testing at various quality settings
As we can see, with various quality settings, the amount of RAM consumed in ShootMania Storm is at the level of 650-850 megabytes.
