Review: Playability
StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty is a delicious candy, also wrapped in gold. The developers were able to present us not only with a product that was promoted left and right, but also a magnificent game that eclipsed in its magnificence all other game projects released in this genre. The development of the storyline is well inspired by video productions on the game engine, allowing you to achieve a depth of the storyline comparable to Mass Effect. RPG elements are also present, allowing you to expand your arsenal and weapons.
The game takes place in the 26th century in a remote part of the Milky Way galaxy. The game’s plot is based on the interaction of three races: Terrans (people expelled from Earth), Zerg (a race of insects controlled by the Queen of Blades) and Protoss (a high-tech race with pronounced psionic abilities). Wings of Liberty has a strong focus on Terrans, while the Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void expansions will focus on Zerg and Protoss respectively. The game takes place four years after the events of StarCraft: Brood War.
As in StarCraft, the main emphasis in the game is on resource extraction and numerous battles. By mining resources, the player receives funds to construct buildings that can produce combat units and improve them. The main purpose of combat units is to extract resources and attack the enemy. The player’s goal is to destroy all enemy buildings (but not necessarily all combat units).
The main goal of the game is still the destruction of the enemy. To achieve it, the player can use both ground and air troops. There are plenty of the latter in Starcraft II, and each type is unique in its own way. Many new units have been added to the game, old ones have undergone significant changes, and some have been removed. The developers were focused on gameplay that was different from Warcraft III. According to them, the emphasis is on fighting from multiple armies, and the emphasis on micro-control is reduced.
We invite you to evaluate part of the game walkthrough of StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty, where you can see for yourself the quality of this product:
Well, what can we say – the game is simply magnificent and once you sit down on a hot evening, you risk tearing yourself away from it only the next morning. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen such a great product in the RTS strategy genre. Blizzard Entertainment has not tarnished its reputation by releasing a very high-quality product for its own benefit and our joy…
Review: Game Graphics
StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty pleased us with its high-quality and rich graphics. This is especially true for plot productions with main characters, in which the cinematography is truly mesmerizing. Many would jump for joy if the graphics of these productions matched the strategic component of the game. But perhaps in the near future we will see when such quality of gaming images will become the norm.
Of course, the latest newfangled graphical bells and whistles are not provided in the game; DirectX 9 is the ceiling of StarCraft 2. Blizzard’s visual style is very clearly visible – the picture is fantasy-cartoon, quite beautiful and without unnecessary frills. There are plenty of special effects, and every now and then they remind you of themselves with juicy explosions or bright flashes.
The location maps in the game are not too huge, but you can’t say that they are small, you can say that they are just right. The detailing of locations, objects and characters is quite high and deserves all praise. Havok Physics was used as the physics engine, and it copes with its responsibilities quite well. On this note, we finish our introduction to the game graphics and move directly to the tests themselves.
Review: Resource-intensive game
To play StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty comfortably, you will need a Core 2 Duo 2.83 GHz processor orAthlon 64 x2 6000+ and 3 gigabytes of RAM.

Our video cards are tested generally in all different screen sizes, and you can evaluate how your video card behaves relative to other modern solutions in almost all different gaming screen sizes. All video cards were tested with maximum quality graphics settings.
Less productive video cards are tested based on the Core 2 Quad Q9550 processor, and more productive ones are based on Core™ i7 processors. The game menu does not provide activation of full-screen anti-aliasing and to apply it, settings in Catalyst were used Control Center and NVIDIA Control Panel. We warn you that to activate anti-aliasing on cards, you must update the driver to ATI Catalyst 10.7.
Testing at maximum quality settings 1024×768
Let’s start, as usual, with a resolution of 1024×768. Today, monitors with this resolution are gradually disappearing, but it still remains relevant. It will require a minimum of video cards such as Radeon HD 5570 or GeForce 8800 GS, which is not bad at all, especially if you remember ArmA 2: Operation Arrowhead…
Testing at maximum quality settings 1280×1024
With the most popular resolution today, 1280×1024, players will already need to have cards of this level Radeon HD 3850 or GeForce GT 240.
Testing at maximum quality settings 1680×1050
At a widescreen resolution of 1680×1050, the level of decent performance will rise to the level of video cards like the Radeon HD 3870 or GeForce 8800 GT.
Testing at maximum quality settings 1920×1080
With the most popular resolution today, 1280×1024, players will already need to have cards of this level Radeon HD 3850 or GeForce GT 240. With a widescreen resolution of 1680×1050, the level of decent performance will rise to video cards of the Radeon HD 3870 or GeForce 8800 GT level. And with an HD resolution of 1920×1080, your computer will need cards of this level Radeon HD 4830 or GeForce 8800 GTX. But to ensure the most acceptable FPS without drops below 25 frames, you will have to stock up on a Radeon HD 5750 or GeForce GTS 250, which is quite affordable for modern PC players. But don’t forget about such components as the CPU and RAM. The game is quite content with 2 processor cores, and the higher their frequency, the better the scalability with video cards.
Final World: StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty is a very high-quality product and deserves close attention from most players. To set the maximum settings, you will, of course, need quite “decent” hardware by today’s standards, but this “sacrifice” is worth it.
