BASIC GAME INFORMATION |
Year of construction: 2012
Genre: Action (Shooter) / 3D / 1st Person / OnLine
developer: Ubisoft Singapore
Publishing house: Ubisoft
Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Online is a tactical third-person shooter with MMO elements. Developed by Ubisoft Singapore. The game is being developed for PC and will be freely available for download (free-to-play). According to the developers, Ghost Recon Online is being created in the best traditions of the franchise. The game is being made for the PC platform, which will greatly please its owners. The genre of the game remains third-person shooter. Players will be given the opportunity to choose one of three classes of fighters (scout, attack aircraft or specialist). A large assortment of high-tech equipment and weapons and an advanced character development system will also be provided.
One of the game modes will be the capture and control of key points. The place of the battle (and maybe one of the places of the battle) will be a Russian city, this can be seen in the screenshots (an advertisement for one of the Russian mobile operators) And yet, Ghost Recon Online remains shareware. Donors will be able to buy the best weapons for real money, which will again create a certain imbalance between the players.
THE GRAFICAL PART |
This subsection of our review highlights the main graphical aspects of this game. Particular attention is paid to the version of the graphics engine used, the version of the API used, graphic settings and the quality of development of the main visual aspects.
Supported OS and graphics API |
This game is supported by the current major Windows operating systems, which include Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista and Windows 7. Other operating systems are not currently supported by Ghost Recon Online and are unlikely to receive support in the future.
Ghost Recon Online only supports DirectX 9 mode; other modes do not seem to be supported by the game.
Game engine |
What the game engine is for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Online Beta remains a mystery. We were unable to find any information on the Internet. However, it is clearly visible that the game is exactly like the previous console releases of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, based on the YETI engine. Another proof in favor of the YETI engine is the name of the game in the running processes of the system, namely Yeti_Release.
YETI engine is a game engine developed for internal use by Ubisoft. The game engine was developed by Ubisoft Tiwak in 2006 specifically for use in the Xbox 360 version of the game “Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter”. The basis, according to some sources, was the code of the famous “Unreal Engine 2.5” engine created by Epic Games, which was then significantly modified and improved.
Being cross-platform, the technology was used in further developments by Ubisoft and its divisions, undergoing constant improvements. The name of the engine is given in honor of the former name of Ubisoft Tiwak, which at its founding was called “Yeti Interactive”. There is also an allusion to the fictional humanoid creature Yeti, which, according to popular belief, lives in sparsely populated areas of the planet.
One of the levels in the game Lost: Via Domus. The screenshot clearly shows the implementation of water using shaders with refractions and highlights, dynamic shadows and shading from trees and vegetation, the “God Rays” and “HDR” effects. Being based on Unreal Engine 2.5, the technology has undergone numerous changes: the file access system has been completely changed, the graphics engine has been redesigned, and the animation has become more complex. PhysX is integrated as a physics engine.
Added support for modern game consoles Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, optimized operation on multi-core processors. To draw (render) an image on a PC, the DirectX application programming interface, version nine, is used. The engine supports both open and closed locations.
Advanced Graphics Settings |
Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Online Beta has only basic graphics settings. Only low, medium and high graphics quality settings are available for you to change. Additional settings include changing the resolution and turning vertical sync on and off.
Below we have provided screenshots of the game at various graphics settings, where our readers can see the difference between minimum, medium and high graphics quality settings.
Low quality settings |
Medium quality settings |
High quality settings |
As we can see, the difference between high and medium settings is almost unnoticeable, but with low settings the graphics quality noticeably changes for the worse.
General visual design and game physics |
Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Online Beta currently looks pretty mediocre and doesn’t boast cutting-edge graphics. Graphically, the game is five years out of date. But for a free-to-play project, the graphics are quite tolerable, although they lack stars from the sky.
The character models are designed quite clearly, so there are practically no complaints about this issue. The environment is slightly blurry and lacks detailed textures. The entire gameplay is based on a tactical component, so the graphical part in Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Online was relegated to the background. There is practically no physics in the game, other than the impact on game characters and breaking off particles.
Well, then we will move directly to gaming tests and determine what impact this game has on modern computer hardware.

GPU test |
All video cards were tested at maximum graphics quality using MSI Afterburner. The purpose of the test is to determine how video cards from different manufacturers behave under the same conditions. The minimum FPS in the graphics test was not taken this time either due to the impossibility of accurate data processing, since the game is in the MMO genre.
Our video cards were tested at different screen sizes of 1680×1050, 1920×1080 and 2560×1600 at the maximum graphics quality settings allowed by Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Online. SLI and Cross Fire are simply useless for this game at the moment…
Testing at high quality settings 1680×1050
At a resolution of 1680×1050 at high settings, all of our tested video cards showed the minimum level of performance.
Testing at high quality settings 1920×1080
At a resolution of 1920×1080 at high settings, all our cards again showed the minimum level of performance.
Testing at high quality settings 2560×1600
At 2560×1600 resolution on high settings in Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Online the minimum level of acceptable performance was shown by video cards level Radeon HD 5750 or GeForce GTS 450. The game is practically not demanding on the graphics subsystem, judging by modern standards.
VRAM test |
Testing of video memory consumed by the game was carried out by the program MSI Afterburner. The indicator was based on results on top video cards from AMD and NVIDIA with separate screen sizes 1680×1050, 1920×1080 and 2560×1600.
Testing at high memory GPU quality settings
The optimal amount of video memory usage at maximum settings for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Online is about 768 MB for NVIDIA and AMD. But its size is 512 MB. will be quite enough.
CPU test |
We tested processor dependence on 15 models of basic configurations that are relevant today. The test was carried out in those places where the value of video cards for the game is minimal and its load was less than 99%, this time at a resolution of 1024×768.
Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Online Beta CPU test was conducted in a PVP battle on a 16-player map.
Testing at high quality settings 1024×768
All of our tested processors handled the game. The game actively uses the full potential of four computing cores, so a multi-core configuration is more acceptable.
RAM test |
Testing of the RAM consumed by the game was carried out by monitoring directly through the Windows task manager. The test was carried out on the basic configuration of Core i 7 [email protected] GHz with 8GB DDR3 2400 MGz pre-installed memory.
Testing at various quality settings
At any quality setting, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Online uses about 1024 megabytes of RAM. And as we can see, there is simply no need for anything more or less than the game. Play is more optimized for a large user audience.
