Five years have passed since the dramatic events that brought Antalor to the brink of the abyss. The main character is imprisoned in a dark castle, and his sister Kira is in the clutches of the dark lord Gandohar, drugged by a powerful spell. Evil is trying to awaken an ancient power and take over Antalor, and the hero cannot resist dark magic…

However, when despair reached its limit, hope appeared: to the hero’s greatest surprise, his sworn enemies the orcs free him from his shackles. There are more questions than answers. Why did the orcs help him? Who is the Dragon Queen? Can she be trusted? Thus begins a dangerous journey through lands desecrated by darkness. Only by coming face to face with his enemies will the hero be able to shed light on Gandohar’s past, find a way to defeat the powerful magician and save Kira, and therefore the whole world.

THE GRAFICAL PART

This subsection of our review highlights the main graphical aspects of this game. Particular attention is paid to the version of the graphics engine used, the version of the API used, graphic settings and the quality of development of the main visual aspects.

Supported OS and graphics API

This game is supported by major Windows operating systems, which include Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista and Windows 7. Other operating systems by Two Worlds II Pirates of the Flying Fortress are not currently supported and are unlikely to be supported.

TwoWorlds2 DX10_2012_03_19_21_29_55_768

The game supports not only DirectX 9, but also DirectX 10, which has already been largely forgotten by the developers. This caused some surprise, since developers are trying to bypass this API and immediately jump to DirectX 11. The differences when using DirectX 10 are the activation of full-screen anti-aliasing. In DirectX 9 mode, this option is not active.

Game engine

The game engine is a proprietary product of Reality Pump Studios and is called GRACE. The game is exactly like the original Two Worlds II, the only difference being the introduction of DirectX 10 support.

Unfortunately, we were unable to find more detailed information other than visual observations.

Advanced Game Settings

The game has a fairly impressive arsenal of graphics settings. Thus, each user has the opportunity to flexibly adjust the visual component of the game to the performance of their gaming equipment. Graphic settings are divided into two sub-items. In the first, we can change the screen resolution and refresh rate and basic graphics parameters, and in the second, we can configure physics effects.

TwoWorlds2 DX10_2012_03_19_20_31_15_241

Below we have provided screenshots of the game at various graphic settings so that our users can see for themselves what they will have to sacrifice if the performance of their home PC is insufficient.

Maximum quality settings

As we can see the difference between high and low settings is quite high. At low settings, the game looks rather modest and is unlikely to please the player’s eye with a pleasant picture.

General visual design and game physics

If we talk about the overall impression and graphic design, then our opinions are rather twofold. The game world is very rich in bright colors and detailed textures. It is clear that the developers worked hard on the quality and execution of textures and characters.

TwoWorlds2 DX10_2012_03_19_21_31_33_985

The biggest irritating effect is the amount of bloom that causes everything to glow. Of course, in real life we will not be able to see this, and this effect can be turned off if desired. As a result, some graphical gaps that were carefully hidden by this effect begin to catch your eye…

TwoWorlds2 DX10_2012_03_19_21_31_40_977

The physics in Two Worlds II Pirates of the Flying Fortress are quite good and are limited not only by our character, but also by the surrounding world with which he interacts. Of course, the quality of physics is not at the highest level, but the execution itself evokes quite pleasant associations.

Well, then we will move directly to gaming tests and determine what impact this game has on modern computer hardware.

GPU test

All video cards were tested at maximum graphics quality using MSI Afterburner. The purpose of the test is to determine how video cards from different manufacturers behave under the same conditions. The minimum and average frame size is taken as the performance indicator. Below is the configuration of our test systems.

Our video cards were tested at different screen sizes of 1680×1050, 1920×1080 and 2560×1600 at the maximum graphics quality settings allowed by the game. NVIDIA 3D Vision and AMD Eyefinity technologies were not included in the tests this time due to the lack of proper support. Tests were carried out in modes DirectX 9 and DirectX 10...

The optimal amount of video memory used in DirectX 9 mode for this game is 768 MB for NVIDIA video cards and about 512 MB for AMD video cards.

Testing at maximum quality settings memory GPU DX10

 tw II dx10 video ram

The optimal amount of video memory used in DirectX 10 mode for this game is its amount of at least 1024 MB for NVIDIA and AMD video cards.

CPU test

TwoWorlds2 DX10_2012_03_19_20_28_50_981

We tested processor dependence on 15 models of basic configurations that are relevant today. The test was carried out in those places where the value of video cards for the game is minimal and its load was less than 99%, this time at a resolution of 1024×768 with maximum graphics quality settings.

Testing at minimum quality settings 1024×768

tw II dx10 proz

None of our tested processors experienced performance issues in this game. Even any modern entry-level dual-core CPU is suitable for the game.

RAM test

3930k

Testing of the RAM consumed by the game was carried out by monitoring directly through the Windows task manager. The test was carried out on the basic configuration of Core i 7 [email protected] GHz with 8GB DDR3 2400 MGz pre-installed memory.

Testing at various DX9 quality settings

tw II dx9 ram

As we can see, with different quality settings, the amount of RAM consumed in DirectX 9 mode ranges from 400 to 500 megabytes.

Testing at various DX10 quality settings

tw II dx10 ram

In the mode DirectX 10 RAM consumption was found to be an order of magnitude lower than in DirectX 9 and ranges from 340-400 megabytes.
