THE GRAFICAL PART |
This subsection of our review highlights the main graphical aspects of this game. Particular attention is paid to the version of the graphics engine used, the version of the API used, graphic settings and the quality of development of the main visual aspects.
Supported OS and graphics API |
This game is supported by the current major Windows operating systems, which include Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista and Windows 7. Other operating systems are not currently supported by Warface Beta and are unlikely to receive support in the future.
Warface Beta only supports DirectX 9 modes, although CryEngine 3 is capable of more.
Game engine |
The game engine for Warface Beta is CryEngine 3. “Warface” is being developed by three Crytek studios: the Ukrainian branch of Crytek Kiev, the South Korean branch of Crytek Seoul and the main studio in Frankfurt am Main. The exclusive publisher and distributor of the game in China is the large Chinese company Tencent.
CryEngine 3 is a game engine developed by the German company Crytek and is the successor to the CryEngine 2 engine. CryEngine 3 is initially a cross-platform engine – it is initially aimed at IBM PC-compatible computers and game consoles Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony PlayStation 3, as well as their subsequent versions . In addition, the engine is focused on the development of massively multiplayer online games.
The CryEngine 3 engine is completely commercial, and the main focus of its development is licensing it to other companies. CryEngine 3 was officially announced on March 11, 2009, and the official release of the engine took place on October 14, 2009. The first game for which the use of CryEngine 3 was announced is the first-person shooter Crysis 2 from Crytek.
You can read more about the technology of this engine in our previous review.
Advanced Graphics Settings |
Warface Beta has both basic and advanced graphics settings. As a result of simple manipulations, you can achieve optimal performance from any modern gaming PC system.
Below we have provided screenshots of the game at various graphics settings, where our readers can see the difference between minimum, medium and high graphics quality settings.
Low quality settings |
Medium quality settings |
High quality settings |
As we can see, the difference between high, medium and low settings is visible to the naked eye.
General visual design and game physics |
Visually, Warface Beta looks good, but does not reach the level of graphics quality set by CryEngine at the moment. Apparently the developers placed more emphasis not on ultra-technological graphics, but on a larger audience that would be able to join online battles.
The textures are worked out mediocrely and upon close examination their outlines practically blur. The drawing distance is small and one gets the feeling that the background is not the surrounding world, but the background image. The game characters themselves are more or less developed, but again, we expected more from CryEngine.
The physics in the game contains only basic elements and applies only to the players themselves. We don’t destroy the world around us, which is very disappointing, especially in light of the kind of destruction that can be done in the online mode of Battlefield 3.
Well, then we will move directly to gaming tests and determine what impact this game has on modern computer hardware.

GPU test |
All video cards were tested at maximum graphics quality using MSI Afterburner. The purpose of the test is to determine how video cards from different manufacturers behave under the same conditions. The minimum FPS was not taken in the graphics and processor test due to the impossibility of accurate data processing, since the game is in the MMO genre.
Our video cards were tested at different screen sizes of 1680×1050, 1920×1080 and 2560×1600 at the maximum graphics quality settings allowed by the game. SLI and Cross Fire do not provide an increase in performance, SLI showed zero scalability, and Cross Fire even went negative…
Testing at high quality settings 1680×1050
At a resolution of 1680×1050 at high settings, all our video cards showed the minimum level of performance, and for comfortable gaming, cards of the Radeon HD 5750 or GeForce GTS 450 level will be sufficient.
Testing at high quality settings 1920×1080
At a resolution of 1920×1080 at high settings, the minimum level of performance was again shown by cards of the Radeon HD 5750 or GeForce GTS 450 level.
Testing at high quality settings 2560×1600
At 2560×1600 resolution on high settings the minimum level of acceptable performance was shown by video cards of the level of Radeon HD 6850 or GeForce GTX 465. As we can see from the above graphs, the game has quite loyal requirements for the graphics subsystem.
VRAM test |
Testing of video memory consumed by the game was carried out by the program MSI Afterburner. The indicator was based on results on top video cards from AMD and NVIDIA with separate screen sizes 1680×1050, 1920×1080 and 2560×1600.
Testing at high memory GPU quality settings
The optimal amount of video memory usage at maximum settings for Warface Beta is about 512 MB for NVIDIA and AMD. At the moment, this is the minimum level of pre-installed memory in modern video cards.
CPU test |
We tested processor dependence on 15 models of basic configurations that are relevant today. The test was carried out in those places where the value of video cards for the game is minimal and its load was less than 99%, this time at a resolution of 1024×768.
The Warface Beta processor dependence test was carried out in a PVP battle in a map for 16 people – it is impossible to be biased towards the processor dependence test, since the game is in the MMO genre and it is not possible to make an accurate measurement, including the minimum FPS without errors.
Testing at high quality settings 1024×768
The game is quite loyal to the resources of central processors. For comfortable playability, a modern dual-core model will be quite sufficient. In the processor dependence test, as in all tests, the game was very loyal to the use of system resources.
RAM test |
Testing of the RAM consumed by the game was carried out by monitoring directly through the Windows task manager. The test was carried out on the basic configuration of Core i 7 [email protected] GHz with 8GB DDR3 2400 MGz pre-installed memory.
Testing at various quality settings
At maximum quality settings, the game uses about 1024 megabytes of RAM. In medium and low quality settings, this figure is reduced by 150 megabytes. RAM consumption at minimum and medium settings is identical and their difference may vary within the error range.
