Take command of a squad of 'Mechs with MechWarriors pilots and try to survive in a brutal interstellar civil war. Upgrade your base, make contracts with feudal lords, repair and maintain your fleet of BattleMechs, develop and deploy devastating tactics to defeat enemies on the battlefields.
THE GRAFICAL PART |
In this subsection of our review, the main graphical aspects of this game are revealed. Particular attention is paid to the version of the graphics engine used, the version of the API used, graphics settings and the quality of the development of the main visual aspects.
SUPPORTED OC AND GRAPHICS API |
BATTLETECH is supported by Windows 7/8 and Windows 10.
The priority and primary graphics API for BATTLETECH is DirectX 11 .
GAME ENGINE |
BATTLETECH is powered by the Unity game engine. Unity is a 2D and 3D application and game development tool that runs on Windows and OS X operating systems. Applications built with Unity run on Windows, OS X, Windows Phone, Android, Apple iOS, Linux, and game consoles Wii, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One. It is possible to create applications to run in browsers using a special Unity plug-in (Unity Web Player), as well as using the implementation of WebGL technology. Previously, there was experimental implementation support for projects within the Adobe Flash Player module, but later the Unity development team made the difficult decision to drop this.
Applications built with Unity support DirectX and OpenGL. The engine is actively used by both large developers (Blizzard, EA, QuartSoft, Ubisoft) and Indie game developers (for example, Pathologic remake), Kerbal Space Program, Slender: The Eight Pages, Slender: The Arrival, Surgeon Simulator 2013, Baeklyse Apps: Guess the actor, etc.) due to the availability of a free version, user-friendly interface and ease of working with the engine.
The project in Unity is divided into scenes (levels) - separate files containing their game worlds with their own set of objects, scenarios, and settings. Scenes can contain objects (models) as well as empty game objects - objects that do not have a model ("dummy"). Objects, in turn, contain sets of components that scripts interact with. Also, objects have a name (in Unity, two or more objects with the same name are allowed), there can be a tag (label) and a layer on which it should be displayed. So, any object on the stage must have a Transform component - it stores the coordinates of the location, rotation and size of the object along all three axes. Objects with visible geometry also have a Mesh Renderer component by default that makes the object's model visible.
In addition to free, there are four builds - standard Unity, Unity iOS Pro (for developing games for iOS), Android Pro and a team license. They differ in cost and functionality. The free version has some limitations, but it is possible to distribute games, provided that the annual income from the game does not exceed $100,000. With the release of Unity 5, many of the limitations of the Free version have been removed, but the annual income from the game must still not exceed $100,000.
ADVANCED GAME SETTINGS |
BATTLETECH has a wide range of graphic settings - both basic and advanced settings are available.
Below we have provided screenshots of the game at various graphics settings, where our readers can see the difference between the minimum and maximum graphics quality settings.
DIFFERENT QUALITY MODES |
To be honest, I don't really see the difference...
COMPARISON OF SMOOTHING MODES |
Anti-aliasing in the game apparently works, but it is extremely difficult to notice ...
GENERAL VISUAL DESIGN AND GAME PHYSICS |
The graphics in BATTLETECH are absolutely not enough stars from the sky - everything is done more than at an average level. All the emphasis was placed on game mechanics and directly into the gameplay.
Well, then we will go directly to the gaming tests and determine what impact this game has on modern computer hardware.

Our video cards were tested at resolutions of 1920x1080, 2560x1600 and 3840x2160 with absolute maximum graphics quality settings.
GPU TEST |
In the test of video cards, the default resolution is 1920x1080, other resolutions are added and removed manually. You can also remove and add any positions of video cards. You can also choose any of our test processors from the list in the drop-down menu, comparing its performance with the given video card tests (by default, the most productive solution is selected).
At a resolution of 1920x1080, an average FPS of 25 frames was shown by video cards of the Radeon RX 460 or GeForce GTX 750 Ti level. A minimum FPS of at least 25 frames can be provided by video cards of the Radeon RX 4600 or GeForce GTX 1050 Ti level. A comfortable average FPS of 60 frames can be provided by solutions like the Radeon R9 290X or GeForce GTX 1060.
At a resolution of 2560x1440, an average FPS of 25 frames was shown by video cards of the Radeon R9 380 or GeForce GTX 1050 Ti level. A minimum FPS of at least 25 frames can be provided by video cards of the Radeon R9 380X or GeForce GTX 960 level. A comfortable average FPS of 60 frames can be provided by solutions of the Radeon R9 Fury X or GeForce GTX 980 Ti level.
At a resolution of 3840x2160, an average FPS of 25 frames was shown by video cards of the Radeon RX 580 or GeForce GTX 1060 6G level. A minimum FPS of at least 25 frames can be provided by video cards of the Radeon R9 Nano or GeForce GTX 1060 level. A comfortable average FPS of 60 frames can be provided by solutions of the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti level.
VIDEO MEMORY CONSUMPTION |
Testing of the video memory consumed by the game was carried out by the MSI Afterburner program. The results on video cards from AMD and NVIDIA at resolutions of 1920x1080 and 2560x1440 with various anti-aliasing settings were taken as the indicator. By default, the graph displays the most up-to-date solutions. Other graphics cards are added and removed from the chart at the reader's request.
GameGPU
At a resolution of 1920x1080, video memory consumption for video cards with 3 gigabytes of onboard memory is 2300 megabytes, with 4 gigabytes 3300 megabytes, with 6 gigabytes 3300 megabytes, with 8 gigabytes 3300 megabytes and with 11 gigabytes 3500 megabytes.
