Determining the fastest and most optimal solutions of 2015

BASIC INFORMATION ON THE MATERIAL

 Games 2015

Well, at the end of our testing, we present our debut material to determine the fastest and best solutions of the past year. Also in this review, we will determine the optimal amount of RAM and video memory that modern games need.

Below we have given a list of games on the basis of which our conclusions were based:

Dying Light GPU test 2015
Battlefield: Hardline GPU test 2015
Grand Theft Auto V GPU test 2015
Project CARS GPU test 2015
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt GPU test 2015
Batman Arkham Knight GPU test 2015
Mad Max GPU test 2015
Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom Pain GPU test 2015
Call of Duty Black Ops III GPU test 2015
Fallout 4 GPU test 2015
STAR WARS Battlefront GPU test 2015
Assassin's Creed Syndicate GPU test 2015
Just Cause 3 GPU test 2015

Determination of the fastest and optimal solutions among video cards

Next, we will start processing the results of our test. So, in order to find out what the fastest solutions are video cards in games of 2015, we will sum up their total FPS in the games tested.

Total FPS 1920x1080

fps 1920

So, we see that at a resolution of 1920x1080, the top three solutions are GEFORCE GTX 980 Ti SLI, Radeon R9 Fury X CF  and GEFORCE GTX 980 SLI . If you choose from single-chip solutions, the result will be identical -  GEFORCE GTX 980 Ti Radeon R9 Fury X and GEFORCE GTX 980 .  Below we present a generalized graph at a resolution of 2560x1440.

Total FPS 2560x1440

fps 2560

At a resolution of 2560x1440, the top three solutions included GEFORCE GTX 980 Ti SLI,  Radeon R9 Fury X CF  and  GEFORCE GTX 980 SLI . If you choose from single-chip solutions, then the result will be -  GEFORCE GTX 980 Ti Radeon R9 Fury X and Radeon R9 Nano .  Below we present a generalized graph at a resolution of 3840x2160.

Overall FPS 3840x2160

fps 3840

At a resolution of 3840x2160, we have a complete analogue of 2560x1440, dual-chip  -  GEFORCE GTX 980 Ti SLI,  Radeon R9 Fury X CF  and  GEFORCE GTX 980 SLI . If you choose from single-chip solutions -  GEFORCE GTX 980 Ti , Radeon R9 Fury X and  Radeon R9 Nano.

Now look at the cost of video cards at the moment (the price was taken based on offers for the average minimum price of each solution, which can be found in the catalogs of some stores for the month of December, although their availability may be in doubt):

And at the next stage, we identify the most optimal purchases, as a result of which we can buy the largest number of FPS for 1 $. We divide the total FPS we received in 13 games and get the number of frames that we can purchase for $1.

This time we get quite an interesting picture. Miraculously, the old AMD R9 280X, HD 7970 and HD 7950 show the highest optimal performance. This is explained by the fact that these video cards are already quite stale on the shelves of stores and give their annuals for almost nothing. And if we adjust the cards to the level where they provide a performance of at least 25 frames, then we will have the following picture:

1920x1080 : For this resolution , the Radeon R9 280X and GEFORCE GTX 960 4G are the most optimal - both solutions cost almost the same and provide identical gaming performance. But the 960th 4G has a small advantage - it's low power consumption and 4 gigabytes of on-board memory. But  the R9 280X also has a small plus - the memory bus is 3 times wider, which in some games can give some increase in performance.

2560x1440:  Radeon R9 290 and GEFORCE GTX 970 are the most optimal for this resolution . But in this case, AMD has a slight advantage in terms of optimality, since the 290th provides a slightly higher performance for its price.

3840x2160:  For this resolution, two solutions are more or less optimal and productive - these are GEFORCE GTX 970 SLI and GEFORCE GTX 980 Ti . But the first, as we know, is SLI and only 4 incomplete gigabytes of video memory, and the second is a powerful single-chip with 6 gigabytes. So in 4K,  the GEFORCE GTX 980 Ti will be optimal , and this, consider, without options ...

Determination of the fastest and optimal solutions among processors

Next, we will start processing the results of our test. So, to find out what are the fastest CPU resolutions in 2015 games, we will also sum up their total FPS in the games tested.

The AMD FX-4300 turned out to be the most profitable solution in terms of price, as before, the second place was taken by  the AMD FX-6100,  which is still available in some stores. Well, the third on the list was the FX-6300. So, as we can see, although AMD has not yet introduced new processors, its "oldies" are still the most profitable solutions for purchasing and are able to provide an acceptable FPS in games of at least 25 frames.

Judging by the most CPU-intensive game of the year, Project CARS, AMD FX-8350 and Core i 3 4330 are the best buys  .

Video memory and RAM consumption

The final touch of our conclusion will be the determination of optimality in terms of RAM and video memory in modern games. The indicator was taken as the maximum and average amount of memory consumed.

Video memory consumption:

2015 vram

Well, at 1920x1080, the average volume will be 3 gigabytes of video memory. The maximum can reach 4 gigabytes. At 2K, the average figure reaches 3.5 gigabytes, and the maximum can reach the level of 5 gigabytes. Well, in 4K, the average VRAM consumption is more than 4 gigabytes, and the maximum is 6.

RAM consumption

2015 ram

Judging from the RAM graph, the minimum level of a gaming PC in 2015 is 8 gigabytes of RAM. Full comfort for the user will be only with 16 gigabytes of RAM.

Awarding the best in terms of price and speed solutions this year

280

Well, despite the fact that the architecture of this video card is already several years old, it never ceases to amaze. So if anyone is thinking of purchasing a Radeon R9 280X, you still have this opportunity.

960

GEFORCE GTX 960 with 4 GB is an excellent solution for the modern gamer, which provides good performance and reasonable price in its class.

290

The Radeon R9 290 has been the benchmark for performance in modern gaming for the second year in a row. And modes such as Full HD and 2K are a vivid confirmation of this.

970

The GEFORCE GTX 970 is a quiet, cool and fast solution, which in most cases is sufficient up to 2K. Also, this solution is the minimum level for future VR technology.

980 ti

The highest performance and a quite adequate amount of video memory provide this top-end solution with excellent performance, up to 4K modes, where the GEFORCE GTX 980 Ti is the undisputed leader in terms of its price and speed!

Well, a small update to today's review:  today, January 11, AMD announced a price reduction for the Radeon R9 Nano video card from the official $649 to $499. If we judge our current retail prices of $800, then the price of the card will be approximately $600, which will not only make it a prospect to purchase above the 980th in FullHD and 2K, but also become AMD's best acquisition for 4K mode. We will wait for the official price reduction for Nano in our outlets...
