The Last of Us Part I has been given a new lease of life with the release of a fresh update. This performance-boosting patch makes the game run smoother and more efficient by reducing shader setup times and improving texture quality at low to medium settings.

The update introduces a complete overhaul of shaders, which promises impressive improvements. To take full advantage of this update, make sure you have the latest version of the appropriate driver installed. In particular, for AMD Software this is Adrenalin Edition 23.4.3, and for NVIDIA - GeForce Game Ready Driver 531.79.

With this patch, you will notice that shader setup time has been reduced and CPU performance has been improved thanks to optimized code. Performance is boosted by several levels, and with improved loading levels, the number of idle and loading screens has been reduced.

We've added a new effect density setting to the graphics settings that allows you to adjust the density and amount of secondary visual effects. In addition, we increased the number of characters on low and medium density settings of the surrounding characters.

Several bug fixes have been implemented to provide a smoother and more stable game experience. In particular, we fixed crash issues when launching a game on Windows 11 and Intel Arc, as well as an issue with launching a new game in "Left Behind" before finishing shader settings.

In addition, errors have been fixed in the "Pittsburgh" and "Left Behind" sections related to problems with departures from the world and blocking. The patch also includes load time improvements for AMD users and a fix for an issue with long shader load times.

All video cards were tested at maximum graphics quality by MSI Afterburner. The purpose of the test is to determine how video cards from different manufacturers behave under the same conditions. Below is a video of the test segment :

In the test of video cards, the default resolution is 1920x1080, other resolutions are added and removed manually. You can also remove and add any positions of video cards. You can also select any of our test processors from the list in the drop-down menu, comparing its performance with the given video card tests (by default, the most productive solution is selected). The test is carried out on the most productive CPU in this game and is scaled to other processors, taking into account their testing on NVIDIA and AMD video cards.

A comfortable average FPS of 60 frames can be provided by Radeon RX 6700 XT or GeForce RTX 2070s solutions .

At a resolution  of 2560x1440, an average FPS of 25 frames was shown by video cards of the Radeon RX 6600 or GeForce RTX 2060 level .  A minimum FPS of at least 25 frames can be provided by video cards of the level Radeon RX 6600 XT or GeForce RTX 2060 . A comfortable average FPS of 60 frames can be provided by Radeon RX 6800 or GeForce RTX 3080 solutions .

Testing of the video memory consumed by the game was carried out by the  MSI Afterburner program. The results on video cards from AMD and NVIDIA at resolutions of  1920x1080, 2560x1440 and 3840x2160 with various anti-aliasing settings were taken as the indicator. By default, the graph displays the most up-to-date solutions. Other graphics cards are added and removed from the chart at the reader's request.
