GeForce FX 5600

inn5600pack
Video cards of the GeForce FX 5600/Ultra series came to replace the outdated GeForce4 Titanium series cards.

And although in many cases the "oldies" still showed the real speed to the "yellowmouths", all the same, the marketing policy of nVidia, support for DirectX 9 and the idea that the GeForce4 Titanium was already outdated forced users to opt for the GeForce FX 5600. One of the advantages of the series GeForce FX 5600 before GeForce4 Titanium began to support 256 MB of DDR SDRAM memory. Apparently, guided by the principle that there is never enough memory, nVidia decided to speed up the transition to a new memory size standard for consumer video cards - 256 MB. Video card manufacturers did not immediately pay attention to this possibility. Having given time for the promotion of a new name, 128-MB versions of the GeForce FX 5600 first appeared on sale, and only a few months later, one by one, companies began to release motherboards with increased memory capacity on the market.

NVIDIA GeForce FX 5600 (codenamed NV31) is a chip based on its older brother FX 5800 (NV30). The FX 5600 was manufactured using a 0.13 micron process and had 45 million transistors. As it should be for a small descendant, the frequencies of the GeForce FX 5600 are lower than the frequencies of the "parent" - FX 5800. 2x2 pipeline architecture (2 pipelines with 2 texture units each). The NVIDIA GeForce FX 5600 chip included two 400 MHz RAMDACs and a built-in codec for TV-out functions. But in terms of functionality, the FX5800 and 5600 were identical: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5600 supports all the functions supported by the FX 5800 (extended support for DirectX 9 and IntelliSample).
