ASUS ROG Ally Outperforms New Intel Meteor Lake-Powered MSI Claw in Initial Benchmark Tests

Initial benchmark tests have revealed that the ASUS ROG Ally, powered by AMD's Ryzen Z1 series, showcases superior performance compared to the MSI Claw, equipped with Intel's latest Meteor Lake chips. Despite high expectations for Intel's new offering, benchmark results from games like Shadow of The Tomb Raider, Cyberpunk 2077, and Red Dead Redemption 2 indicate the MSI Claw lags behind its ASUS counterpart by an average of 10-15%.

These tests were conducted by several Chinese reviewers who managed to get their hands on the devices before their official global launch. The MSI Claw is available in two variants: Core Ultra 7 155H and Core Ultra 5 135H, with a noticeable performance difference between them, especially in resource-intensive games where the gap could exceed 20%.

The performance disparity between the MSI Claw models is attributed in part to the differences in the number of Xe and CPU cores provided in each version. MSI Claw's lag behind ASUS ROG Ally could be explained by the latter's more mature state of driver support and resources, while the Intel newcomer has yet to hit the market.

Although the current testing results are not definitive and MSI Claw's performance is expected to improve by the official release date, it is clear that the ASUS ROG Ally remains a competitive device. It will be interesting to see how future models based on Meteor Lake and other Intel Core Ultra processors will fare against AMD Ryzen Z1-powered products.
