AMD has officially announced the support for ROCm on consumer Radeon "RDNA 3" GPUs this fall

Big news comes from AMD as the company officially announced that Radeon "RDNA 3" consumer GPUs, including the Radeon RX 7900 XTX and Radeon Pro W7900, will support the ROCm software platform starting in Fall 2023. This move is a significant breakthrough for the ROCm platform and users who are looking forward to consumer GPU support.

According to the company, they also plan to add support for more graphics cards in the future. The ROCm 5.6 platform itself will receive a number of improvements focused on AI and HPC.

With this new update, users will be able to take full advantage of ROCm's open AI and ML software platform on consumer Radeon GPUs and professional Radeon Pro GPUs. AMD has stated that they have fixed community-reported driver issues on unsupported GPUs in ROCm 5.6 and are committed to expanding support in the future.

It is important to note that AMD is looking to extend ROCm support from the already supported AMD RDNA 2 production GPUs: Radeon Pro v620 and w6800 to select AMD RDNA 3 production and consumer GPUs.

This decision from AMD strengthens its position in the GPU market by expanding opportunities for developers and users. The release of ROCm support for Radeon Series consumer GPUs breaks new ground for AI and ML innovation, demonstrating AMD's ambition to further expand its influence in this rapidly evolving segment.

While RDNA 3-based GPU support for Linux is scheduled to roll out this fall, we can expect more information later this year as we get closer to launching the updated ROCm software with RDNA 3 GPU support.
