ASUS Showcases New Concept: Integration of M.2 SSD into GeForce RTX 4060 Ti Graphics Card

ASUS has taken an innovative approach to graphics card design by announcing its intention to integrate an M.2 SSD slot into the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti graphics card . The main goal is to use unused PCIe lanes inside the GPU.

Tony Yu, CEO of ASUS, demonstrated the concept using a 2TB Samsung 980 PRO SSD that was mounted on the back of the graphics card. The SSD slot is organized for easy access, while the graphics card back plate acts as a heatsink for the storage device.

The main idea is to use free PCIe lanes. NVIDIA RTX 4060 series cards only use x8 PCIe lanes, which leaves another x8 free. Given that M.2 SSDs use a PCIe x4 interface, ASUS suggests using up to two SSD slots on the graphics card.

This approach will not only allow you to use free resources, but also simplify the process of replacing an SSD in a computer, which will be especially convenient for those users who often change their SSDs.

ASUS has no plans to release the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti with this design to the consumer market yet. However, if the cost of such a graphics card is comparable to conventional ones, it may attract a lot of interest from consumers.
