Performance simulation of AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT: results and expectations.

7800

Based on simulation tests conducted by Igor at Igor's Lab , AMD 's upcoming Radeon RX 7800 XT GPU could show significant progress over the current Navi 31. Navi 31XT.

The Radeon Pro W7800 is equipped with 70 compute units and 4480 stream processors. It has 32 GB of GDDR6 memory running through a 256-bit bus interface and delivering a peak bandwidth of 576 GB/s. This is the first Navi 31 card on a 256-bit bus interface, while the Radeon RX 7900 uses a 320-bit bus.

In order to bring the results closer to what is expected from the RX 7800 XT, Igor used a conversion method that reduced the amount of VRAM to 16 GB via MemtestCL. This was done with the understanding that the RX 7800 XT is unlikely to have such a large amount of 32 GB of VRAM, which could cause performance distortion. The TBP of the GPU has also been adjusted to 270W.

It must be emphasized that it is not yet confirmed that the Radeon RX 7800 XT will have the same technical specifications as the Radeon Pro W7800. Additionally, some GPU driver compatibility issues have been identified.

According to the test results, the simulated RX 7800 XT is slightly ahead of the RX 6800 XT. It averages 4% faster at 1080p and 8% faster at 1440p. However, as Kepler_L2 points out, AMD 's Navi 32 GPU should have a significantly higher clock speed than the Navi 31 GPU. If this is indeed the case, we can expect even higher performance than these simulated benchmarks show.

Please be reminded that these results are just simulations and actual performance may vary.
