Problems with 16-pin connectors: case of melting already in the power supply!

A possible problem with the reliability of the new type of connectors caused a wave of discussions on the network. It seems that power supplies with 16-pin connectors may have serious technical problems, leading to the melting of the connector. A recent case posted by a Reddit user includes a BeQuiet Dark Power 13 1000W PSU.

This incident made headlines as a similar issue was previously seen on some RTX 4090 graphics cards. This time, however, it was found that the connector on the power supply side had completely melted, and this was without adapters being used, as Dark Power 13 has built-in support for 16-pin cables. This raised questions about the global reliability and durability of the new 16-pin connectors.

However, it must be emphasized that so far this is the only recorded case of connector melting on the side of the power supply, and it cannot be considered indicative of the entire industry. It signals possible problems that should be considered when developing and using a new connector standard.

The questions are said to have come at an inopportune time, as there are still reports of melting 16-pin connectors on RTX 4090 graphics cards. Nvidia, on the other hand, claims that the problems are due to user errors that incorrectly installed connectors.
