Vicarious Visions Alchemy (formerly Intrinsic Alchemy) is a game engine developed by Intrinsic Graphics and later acquired by Vicarious Visions for use in their own development. The engine has undergone numerous improvements. Supported PC running Microsoft Windows or Linux, Mac, and game consoles Xbox, Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, GameBoy Advance, GameCube, Wii, Nintendo DS and PSP.
The Vicarious Visions Alchemy engine was created with an eye to optimal use of the power of the sixth and seventh generation of game consoles, but also supports a personal computer (in this case, image rendering can be performed in both DirectX and OpenGL modes). Representing a typical middleware, the engine consists of several interconnected components, however, each of these components can be used separately (in conjunction with solutions from other manufacturers). Per-pixel and pixel-by-pixel lighting, projection and volumetric shadows, texturing with bump mapping technique, shader effects and several types of animation for characters (inverse kinematics and skeletal animation) are supported. An effect is also provided that processes the image, giving it the style of a hand-drawn cartoon.
