ATI Radeon X700 Pro

38657_1_sm

The fact that the performance of products, initially positioned as mainstream, was an order of magnitude superior to all middle-end solutions released earlier, and was worthy of a high-end level, was quite a strong sensation. September 21 - the release of the X700 (RV410) line was officially announced - ATI's response. From that moment on, ATI's PCI-Express solutions range consisted of high-end represented by the X800 line, low-end represented by the X300 and X600 PRO lines /XT in the middle-end sector. The release of the X700 line put a bullet over all the existing "i" in the list of mainstream solutions of the company.

The X700 line, as well as the product of competitors, was made according to a new technical process - 0.11 microns. However, this was not the first ATI solution made according to this process technology. The "guinea pig" was the X300, on which this innovation was tested.

And if you do not take into account the transition to a new process technology, then X700 was the direct successor of X800 - all X800 technologies - 3Dc, SmoothVision, SmartShader and other "joys" were fully supported by X700. The main differences are the reduction in the number of pixel pipelines to 8 and the use of a 128Bit video memory bus. Unlike 6600GT, the number of vertex pipelines remained untouched, X700, like X800, was equipped with 6 vertex pipelines versus 3 for GeForce 6600.

However, the GeForce 6600 had additional advantages in the form of support for shaders version 3.0 (vs. 2.0+ in X700), support for NVIDIA SLI, and, of course, the HSI bridge. The X700 line consisted of three boards - X700XT, X700PRO and X700, the main difference of which from each other was in GPU/memory frequencies. Also X700 Pro is distinguished by a large amount of video memory than other products of the series - 256Mb of memory is installed on the card. In general, the situation with X700 PRO is interesting - it had the same recommended price as X700XT. In this case, a larger amount of video memory was "bathed" by lower frequencies relative to the older model.
