The world has been rocked by a series of environmental disasters, and humanity is on the brink of extinction. The aliens have returned determined to wipe humans off the face of the earth, and have begun in one of Earth's most iconic cities. The streets of New York are flooded with alien invaders, and a wave of revived nightmares gradually overwhelms the city and its inhabitants. City communication systems are destroyed, buildings lie in ruins. You've never seen New York like this before.
Neither the law enforcement agencies nor the US military machine can deal with the invaders, and everyone who did not manage to escape in time is already dead. To survive in this chaos, you will need technologies that no earthly soldier even knows about. One person will inherit what will help him survive. One super soldier, armed and equipped with the latest technology of the future in Nanosuit 2, will make a desperate attempt to save humanity on the streets of New York.
THE GRAFICAL PART |
In this subsection of our review, the main graphical aspects of this game are revealed. Particular attention is paid to the version of the graphics engine used, the version of the API used, graphics settings and the quality of the development of the main visual aspects.
SUPPORTED OC AND GRAPHICS API |
Crysis 2 is supported by Windows Vista/7/8 and Windows 10.
The priority and primary graphics API for Crysis 2 is DirectX 11 .
GAME ENGINE |
Crysis 2 uses the CryEngine 3 game engine. The animation engine used is ANT by EA Tiburon. CryEngine 3 was officially announced on March 11, 2009, on October 14, 2009 the engine was officially released. Crytek's first-person shooter Crysis 2 was the first game that was announced to use CryEngine 3. In the center of the engine logo is a nazar, a traditional Turkish amulet against the evil eye (Crytek was founded by three Turkish brothers).
CryEngine 3 is a cross-platform engine that supports IBM PC-compatible computers and Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony PlayStation 3 game consoles. Shaders in CryEngine 3 are written once in a high-level programming language and then automatically compiled for each platform. Shader output is optimized through artist settings and for the 3D environment in which the shader will be used.
Thanks to this, it becomes possible to create such effects as: “invisibility effect”, wet, dirty and frozen surfaces, which can be “layered” one on top of the other and combined with other shaders that simulate effects such as metal, glass and others. CryEngine 3 supports per-pixel real-time lighting, reflections, refractions, volumetric heat effects and animated textures to simulate windows, bullet holes, sun glare surfaces and many other effects. CryEngine 3 shaders use the unified shader architecture that has been available since Direct3D 10.
"Übershader" is a single shader program with many features: one to four lights, light types, specular cubemaps, fog, detailed textures, normal maps, specular textures, and more. Millions of Übershader combinations can be generated. Übershader uses dynamic branching, splitting into multiple passes, reducing combinations, and accepting options with less functionality and lower performance requirements. Uses asynchronous shader compilation and a Distributed Job System to compile the shader cache.
Crytek focused special attention of the public on the ability of CryEngine 3 to support Real 3D and Ati Eyefinity stereo images, which, by the way, are now in little demand...
ADVANCED GAME SETTINGS |
Crysis 2 has a very wide range of graphics settings. We have both basic and advanced settings at our disposal. It is worth recalling that support for DirectX 11 mode in Crysis 2 did not appear immediately, but after a certain time after the release of the game...
Below we have provided screenshots of the game at various graphics settings, where our readers can see the difference between the minimum and maximum graphics quality settings.
DIFFERENT QUALITY MODES |
The difference between the various settings is visible only with a very, very careful study ...
COMPARISON OF SMOOTHING MODES |
Activating anti-aliasing does not completely remove surface roughness, but at the same time it somewhat soaps the picture.
GENERAL VISUAL DESIGN AND GAME PHYSICS |
Crysis 2 was awaited by many, many PC gamers at one time, looking forward to simply incredible graphics... As it turned out, the graphics with the release of the game in some places turned out to be even worse than the last part of the series, and the setting and scale of the locations were cut to please the consoles of that generation. With the release of the DirectX 11 patch, the situation improved significantly, but still, the game ended up with a double impression...
Next, we will go directly to the gaming tests and determine what impact this game has on modern computer hardware.

Our video cards were tested at resolutions of 1920x1080, 2560x1600 and 3840x2160 at maximum graphics quality settings. AMD CrossFireX and SLI are properly supported by the game, and the scalability is more than 2 times higher than that of single video cards. This is explained by the fact that in single video cards the load is from 65 to 80% (depending on the generation), and in multi-chip it is full - 90-99%. This bug is caused either by the game itself, or by the new OC Windows 10, but the fact that there is an opinion that the developers are not interested in the fate of their creation is very sad...
GPU TEST |
In the test of video cards, the default resolution is 1920x1080, other resolutions are added and removed manually. You can also remove and add any positions of video cards. You can also choose any of our test processors from the list in the drop-down menu, comparing its performance with the given video card tests (by default, the most productive solution is selected).
At a resolution of 1920x1080, an average FPS of 25 frames was shown by video cards of the Radeon RX 460 or GeForce GTX 750 Ti level. A minimum FPS of at least 25 frames can be provided by video cards of the level Radeon RX 460 or GeForce GTX 750 Ti . A comfortable average FPS of frames can be provided by solutions like the Radeon R9 290X or GeForce GTX 780.
At a resolution of 2560x1440, an average FPS of 25 frames was shown by video cards of the Radeon R9 380X or GeForce GTX 960 level. A minimum FPS of at least 25 frames can be provided by video cards of the Radeon R9 380X or GeForce GTX 960 level . A comfortable average FPS of frames can be provided by solutions at the level of Radeon R9 Nano or GeForce GTX 1070.

A comfortable average FPS of 60 frames can be provided by solutions of the Radeon R9 Fury X CF GeForce GTX 980 SLI level.
VIDEO MEMORY CONSUMPTION |
Testing of the video memory consumed by the game was carried out by the MSI Afterburner program. The results on video cards from AMD and NVIDIA at resolutions of 1920x1080 and 2560x1440 with various anti-aliasing settings were taken as the indicator. By default, the graph displays the most up-to-date solutions. Other graphics cards are added and removed from the chart at the reader's request.
