Haemimont Games and publisher THQ Nordic are pleased to announce the highly anticipated Jagged Alliance 3, the sequel to the cult real-time strategy game series that challenges the player to control a mercenary squad in the chaotic fictional land of Grand Chien.
Plot of Jagged Alliance 3
Grand Chien is engulfed in chaos after its president is kidnapped by a military group called the Legion. When all the forces of legislation and the law enforcement system turned out to be powerless, the president's family resorted to the last resource - they hired a detachment of elite mercenaries through the "Adonis" corporation. Now your task, as a player, is to lead this detachment and return power to the rightful ruler.
Gameplay in Jagged Alliance 3
In the spirit of its predecessor, Jagged Alliance 2, the game offers the player the ability to control a squad of 40 unique mercenaries. In the game you will find characters familiar from the old games, such as Vicki Waters, Ivan Dolvich and Fidel Dahan, as well as new faces. Each of them has unique skills, backgrounds, and personalities, adding an extra layer of strategy and realism to the game.
The main combat actions take place on a dynamic map, where the enemy can react to the player's actions, send out punitive squads to capture important sectors that you control. You will also be able to take part in side missions and unlock additional features using the received intel.
Jagged Alliance 3 also offers a cooperative multiplayer mode, allowing you to enjoy the game with your friends.
Development and History of Jagged Alliance 3
The development of Jagged Alliance 3 started back in 2004, when Strategy First and Game Factory Interactive announced that the game was being developed by the Russian company MiST Land South. However, the project was aborted and MiST Land South ended up releasing their own project called JAZZ: Jobs for Hire in 2007.
In 2010, the rights to the Jagged Alliance brand were acquired by the German company bitComposer Games, which was bought by Nordic Games in 2015. Finally, on September 17, 2021, THQ Nordic announced the development of Jagged Alliance 3 by Haemimont Games.
The game is scheduled to release on July 14, 2023. All fans of the series are looking forward to this date, because Jagged Alliance 3 promises to be a great return to the classic tactical strategy.

DIFFERENT QUALITY MODES |
When moving from the minimum graphics settings to the maximum in Jagged Alliance 3, players will notice a noticeable improvement in the quality of the visualization and detail of the game world.
Minimum graphics settings provide a basic but still impressive gaming experience, specially optimized for weak systems. Textures are usually lower resolution and effects such as lighting and shadows are greatly simplified. Character and environment models can look somewhat simplistic as details and polygons are usually reduced to improve performance.
On the contrary, maximum graphics settings provide the most visually rich and immersive experience, including a number of improvements that make the game world incredibly realistic. High resolution textures add depth and detail to objects and environments. Dynamic lighting and shadows give scenes an unparalleled level of realism, while particle effects and sophisticated physics make interaction with the game world truly immersive.
DLSS/FSR |
Jagged Alliance 3 featured three supersampling technologies: NVIDIA's DLSS, AMD's FSR, and Intel's XeSS. These technologies have their own characteristics, and here is how they affect the graphical representation of the game:
NVIDIA DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling): DLSS features the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning to render an image at a lower resolution and then upscale it to a higher resolution. The result is high image quality with minimal GPU load, allowing you to support higher frame rates. In Jagged Alliance 3, DLSS performs at its best, delivering crisp, detailed images with minimal loss in quality.
AMD FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution): FSR takes a different approach, which also allows games to be rendered at lower resolutions and then upscaled to higher resolutions. FSR also works well in Jagged Alliance 3, but image quality can be a bit lower than with DLSS, especially at lower settings.
Intel XeSS (Xe Super Sampling): XeSS, like DLSS and FSR, also uses a low resolution approach and subsequent image enhancement. However, in Jagged Alliance 3, image quality can be slightly worse when using XeSS than when using DLSS or FSR. This can result in some blurring and loss of detail, especially at high graphics settings.
All in all, for those who want to maximize image quality and performance in Jagged Alliance 3, NVIDIA's DLSS is the best choice. However, both FSR and XeSS are also valid alternatives for those using hardware from AMD or Intel, respectively.
DIFFERENT SMOOTHING MODES |
Antialiasing is a technology that helps minimize jagged edges (aliasing) often seen in 3D games, especially along diagonal or curved lines. Disabled anti-aliasing, FXAA (Fast Approximate Anti-Aliasing) and SMAA (Subpixel Morphological Anti-Aliasing) are three different approaches to this technology.
Anti-Aliasing Disabled: When anti-aliasing is disabled in Jagged Alliance 3, the graphics engine makes no attempt to soften or "smooth" jagged edges. As a result, graphics will be sharper, but jagged edges and "ladder" artifacts will become more visible. This can result in a sharper, but possibly less aesthetic, image. However, this can improve performance on less powerful systems.
FXAA (Fast Approximate Anti-Aliasing): FXAA is a post-processing anti-aliasing technique that purposefully blurs jagged edges to make them less noticeable. It is a fast, low-level method that works with little to no performance degradation. However, the results may be less accurate and the image may appear slightly blurry, especially with active movement.
SMAA (Subpixel Morphological Anti-Aliasing): SMAA is a more sophisticated anti-aliasing technique that uses subpixel knowledge to minimize jagged edges. It offers higher quality results compared to FXAA while keeping the performance overhead relatively low. However, it may not be as effective in heavy motion or fast-paced scenes.

All video cards were tested at maximum graphics quality by MSI Afterburner. The purpose of the test is to determine how video cards from different manufacturers behave under the same conditions. Below is a video of the test segment:
Our video cards were tested at resolutions of 1920x1080 , 2560x1440 and 3840x2160 with ultra graphics quality settings.

In the test of video cards, the default resolution is 1920x1080, other resolutions are added and removed manually. You can also remove and add any positions of video cards. You can also select any of our test processors from the list in the drop-down menu, comparing its performance with the given video card tests (by default, the most productive solution is selected). Testing of the video memory consumed by the game was carried out by the MSI Afterburner program. The results on video cards from AMD and NVIDIA at resolutions of 1920x1080, 2560x1440 and 3840x2160 with various anti-aliasing settings were taken as the indicator. By default, the graph displays the most up-to-date solutions. Other graphics cards are added and removed from the chart at the reader's request.

Testing takes place on the most productive NVIDIA and AMD video cards and scales up to lower models.
When using NVIDIA video cards, Ryzen 3 3100 or Core i 3 10100 processors showed an acceptable rate of at least 25 frames per second , and Ryzen 3 3100 or Core i 3 10100 solutions can provide an FPS rate of at least 60 frames per second .

The test was conducted on the base configuration Core i 9 13900K with 32 GB DDR5 6400 MHz pre-installed memory. All used RAM was taken as an indicator. The RAM test on the entire system was carried out on various video cards without running extraneous applications (browsers, etc.). In the graphics, you can add and remove any resolutions and video cards as desired.
