The developers have put significant effort into improving graphics and performance in Last Epoch. They worked to optimize lighting in real time, integrated static shadows into levels, and implemented a new grass system that reduces the impact on performance while maintaining image quality. A new reflection system and texture streaming have also been introduced to improve loading times and reduce memory usage. Additionally, the Last Epoch developers updated the rendering paths, most notably moving to deferred rendering to allow more dynamic lighting without a significant performance hit, despite issues with multiple light sources.

Particular attention is paid to improving frame rates and optimizing game resources. Includes a rework of shaders and making them compatible with the deferred rendering path, which was chosen for its efficiency in handling the variety of light sources vital to the game's dynamic lighting effects. The team also worked to resolve performance issues related to shaders and particle systems to improve the overall smoothness of the gameplay.

Although the game is still in development, with each update the developers are optimizing Last Epoch, ensuring that by the time it is fully released it will offer both impressive graphics and smooth performance. They stated their intention to balance rapid development with performance improvements, recognizing that optimization requires significant resources and typically occurs towards the end of the development cycle.

Ultimately, Last Epoch, despite initial skepticism about using the Unity engine, demonstrates that with careful optimization and skilled development, Unity can support complex, visually impressive and practical games. The developers' continuous efforts to refine and improve the game's graphics and performance demonstrate their commitment to providing a quality product to the gaming community.

DIFFERENT QUALITY MODES

In-game graphics settings at minimum reduce the level of detail and disable various graphics functions to improve performance, while settings at maximum enable all possible effects, providing the highest quality and detail of the image.

All video cards were tested at maximum graphics quality using MSI Afterburner. The purpose of the test is to determine how video cards from different manufacturers behave under the same conditions. Below is a video of the test segment:

In the video card test, the default resolution is 1920x1080; other resolutions are added and removed manually. You can also remove and add any positions of video cards. You can also select any of our test processors from the list in the drop-down menu, comparing its performance with the given video card tests (by default, the most productive solution is selected). The test is carried out on the most powerful CPU in this game and is scaled to other processors, taking into account their testing on NVIDIA and AMD video cards.

A comfortable average FPS of 60 frames can be provided by Radeon RX 6600 or GeForce RTX 2060 solutions .

Testing of video memory consumed by the game was carried out by  MSI Afterburner. The indicator was based on results on video cards from AMD and NVIDIA at resolutions of  1920x1080, 2560x1440 and 3840x2160 with various anti-aliasing settings. By default, the graph displays the most current solutions. Other video cards are added and removed from the chart at the request of the reader.

Testing was carried out at a resolution of 1920x1080. In the processor test, you can remove or add any processor positions. You can also select any tested video card from the list in the drop-down menu, comparing its performance with the given processor test results  (by default, the most productive solution from NVIDIA is selected). Testing takes place on the most powerful NVIDIA and AMD video cards and scales to low-end models.

The test was carried out on the basic configuration of Core i 9 13900K with 32 GB DDR5 6400 MHz pre-installed memory. All used RAM was taken as an indicator. The RAM test for the entire system was carried out on various video cards without launching third-party applications (browsers, etc.). In the graphics, you can add and remove any resolutions and video cards as desired.
