STAR WARS Jedi Survivor: PC Performance Benchmarks for Graphics Cards and Processors 2023

BASIC GAME INFORMATION

As part of our annual graphics card performance testing in 2023, we will focus on analyzing gaming performance using the highest available graphics quality for each game. This year, Core VRAM and RAM tests, as well as upscales, will not be taken into account. Our goal is to identify the most powerful graphics cards and determine their hierarchical positions in the context of games in 2023. This will be a comprehensive gaming benchmark focused on assessing real-world performance under the most demanding gaming conditions. 

We continue our annual review cycle, which will culminate in the final determination of the fastest and most optimal gaming solutions among video cards for games released in 2023. In this review we focus on testing the game STAR WARS Jedi Survivor.

THE GRAFICAL PART

This subsection of our review highlights the main graphical aspects of this game. Particular attention is paid to the version of the graphics engine used, the version of the API used, graphic settings and the quality of development of the main visual aspects.

The preferred and primary graphics API for STAR WARS Jedi Survivor is DX12 .

GAME ENGINE

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the sequel to the hit game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, was released on April 28, 2023. Development of the game began in 2020 when it became apparent that Fallen Order was receiving positive reviews and commercial success.

The game was announced on May 27, 2022, and the development team, led by Stig Asmussen, stated their desire to create a sequel that retains the atmosphere and mechanics of the original, but adds new elements and improvements.

During the development of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the Respawn Entertainment team actively used the capabilities of the new generation of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles, as well as modern computers. This allowed developers to implement real-time ray tracing and reduce game loading times by ending support for older consoles.

The gameplay was first shown at The Game Awards 2022, where viewers were able to see a gameplay trailer and find out the game's release date - March 17, 2023. However, at the end of January 2023, the developers announced that the release would be postponed to April 28 for additional refinement and polish.

As part of its marketing campaign, AMD is providing free copies of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor to all AMD Ryzen 7000 processor customers from January to April 2023.

Upon release, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor received positive reviews from critics and players, with particular praise for the game's improved graphics, gameplay, and variety of lightsaber stances. In an interview with IGN, Stig Asmussen mentioned that a Star Wars trilogy is being planned, with a possible third and final major installment aiming to use the new game engine Unreal Engine 5.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor uses the Unreal Engine 4 game engine developed by Epic Games. This engine was chosen by the developers of Respawn Entertainment due to its flexibility, power and capabilities. Unreal Engine 4 delivers stunning graphics and fluid gameplay for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, while also seamlessly adapting to new generations of consoles and PCs.

Key features of the Unreal Engine 4 game engine in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor:

1. Graphics and Lighting: Unreal Engine 4 is renowned for its photorealistic graphics and advanced lighting technologies. This allowed developers to create beautiful and detailed game worlds that completely immerse players in the Star Wars universe.

3. Physics and Animation: Unreal Engine 4 gives developers powerful tools to create realistic physics and smooth animations. This allowed for the creation of compelling and lifelike characters, as well as interactive objects and environments.

4. AI and Patching: Unreal Engine 4 has built-in artificial intelligence and patching systems that allow developers to create complex and intelligent enemies for players. This makes battles more interesting and challenging.

5. Flexibility and modularity: Unreal Engine 4 allows developers to quickly and easily create new game worlds, characters and mechanics, speeding up the development process and making it easier to introduce new content.

6. Cross-Platform: Unreal Engine 4 supports a wide range of platforms, allowing Star Wars Jedi: Survivor to be played across multiple devices such as Windows, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

In the future, the developers are planning a possible third and final part of the Star Wars trilogy on the game engine Unreal Engine 5. This new engine offers even more advanced capabilities and technologies that will allow the team at Respawn Entertainment to create an even more impressive and engaging Star Wars gaming universe.

GPU TEST

In the video card test, the default resolution is 1920x1080; other resolutions are added and removed manually. You can also remove and add any positions of video cards. You can also select any of our test processors from the list in the drop-down menu, comparing its performance with the given video card tests (by default, the most productive solution is selected). The test is carried out on the most powerful CPU in this game and is scaled to other processors, taking into account their testing on NVIDIA and AMD video cards.

At a resolution of 1920x1080, an average FPS of 25 frames was shown by video cards of the Radeon RX 6600 or GeForce RTX 2060 level . A minimum FPS of at least 25 frames can be provided by video cards of the Radeon RX 6600 or GeForce RTX 2060 level . A comfortable average FPS of 60 frames can be provided by the adeon RX 6800 or GeForce RTX 3070 solutions .

At a resolution  of 2560x1440,  an average FPS of 25 frames was shown by video cards of the adeon RX 6600 XT or GeForce RTX 2060 level . A minimum FPS of at least 25 frames can be provided by video cards of the adeon RX 6700 or GeForce RTX 2080 level . A comfortable average FPS of 60 frames can be provided by Radeon RX 6800 XT or GeForce RTX 3080 Ti solutions.

At a resolution  of 3840x2160,  an average FPS of 25 frames was shown by video cards of the Radeon RX 6800 or GeForce RTX 4070 level . A minimum FPS of at least 25 frames can be provided by video cards of the Radeon RX 6800 or GeForce RTX 3080 level . A comfortable average FPS of 60 frames can be provided by  GeForce RTX 4090 solutions.

CPU TEST

Testing was carried out at a resolution of 1920x1080. In the processor test, you can remove or add any processor positions. You can also select any tested video card from the list in the drop-down menu, comparing its performance with the given processor test results  (by default, the most productive solution from NVIDIA is selected). Testing takes place on the most powerful NVIDIA and AMD video cards and scales to low-end models.

When using NVIDIA video cards, Ryzen 3 3100 or Core i 3 10100 processors showed an acceptable rate of at least 25 frames per second  , and solutions at the Ryzen 5 3600 or Core i 3 10100 level can provide an FPS rate of at least 60 frames per second .

When using AM D video cards, Ryzen 3 3100 or Core i 3 10100 processors showed an acceptable rate of at least 25 frames per second  , and solutions at the Ryzen 3 3300 or Core i 3 10100 level can provide an FPS rate of at least 60 frames per second .
