BASIC INFORMATION ON THE GAME

witcher3 2023 03 14 17 41 02 036

In this review, we present testing of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in versions 4.01 and 4.02 on old components. As it turned out, the update was not to the taste of older generation devices ...

With all possible support in expanding the test bench for this type of testing, GIGABYTE kindly helped us .

THE GRAFICAL PART

In this subsection of our review, the main graphical aspects of this game are revealed. Particular attention is paid to the version of the graphics engine used, the version of the API used, graphics settings and the quality of the development of the main visual aspects.

SUPPORTED OC AND GRAPHICS API

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is only supported on Windows  10/11.

steam

The priority and primary graphics API for Marvel's The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is  DirectX 11/12 .

IMPROVEMENTS IN GAME VERSION 4.0

Patch 4.02 for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is now available. In addition to fixing bugs, it improves the overall stability and performance of the game.

Here is the list of changes:

PC CHANGES

- Improved CPU core usage in DX 12.
- Restored diffuse HBAO shading. Players who have disabled ambient shading will need to enable it again. This setting can be changed in Settings → Video → Graphics.
- Fixed a bug due to which the translation of the "My Rewards" section in REDlauncher was missing.
- Fixed an issue that caused Toussaint scenery to flicker when NVIDIA HairWorks was turned off.
- Fixed a particle optimization bug that caused short frame delays.

GRAPHICS CHANGES

- Added ray traced reflections and refraction for screen space reflections - water now looks more natural.
- Fixed a bug related to brick textures, due to which black artifacts protruded from the stone vaults.
- Added motion blur slider. This setting can be found in Settings → Video → Graphics.

MISSION AND GAMEPLAY CHANGES

- Fixed an issue where the "Prepare for Battle" quest was missing a dialogue option to update the "Tell Avallac'h it's ready" objective.
- Fixed a bug due to which the door of the warehouse in the mission "Case of National Importance" would no longer open if the player knocked, entered and immediately left the building.
- Fixed a bug due to which the task "Witcher's Antiquities: Cat School Upgrades I" remained active even after receiving upgrades.
- Fixed an issue where, when attempting to start a New Game+ from an incompatible save, the player could not launch add-ons in a standalone story mode until restarting the game.

LOCALIZATION FIXES

- Fixed a bug in the card descriptions for Gwent "Ciri" and "Geralt" in Korean.
- Fixed punctuation errors in Arabic translation.
- Updated the font used in traditional Chinese localization.

These are just the most important points. The patch also contains other minor fixes.

In the test of video cards, the default resolution is 1920x1080, other resolutions are added and removed manually. You can also remove and add any positions of video cards. You can also select any of our test processors from the list in the drop-down menu, comparing its performance with the given video card tests (by default, the most productive solution is selected). The test is carried out on the most productive CPU in this game and is scaled to other processors, taking into account their testing on NVIDIA and AMD video cards.

You can choose and buy a video card model or one close to it by clicking on the link from any position of our modular charts from our partner Telemart .

RAM TEST

The test was conducted on the base configuration Core i 7 5960X with 16GB DDR4 3200 MHz pre-installed memory. All used RAM was taken as an indicator. The RAM test on the entire system was carried out on various video cards without running extraneous applications (browsers, etc.). In the graphics, you can add and remove any resolutions and video cards as desired.

UPDATE OUTPUT v. 4.02

It looks like patch 4.02 for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt didn't go well with the old hardware. Processor performance increased slightly, but graphics cards suffered significantly, especially at 4K resolution. And although this resolution is not particularly important for these cards, the fact is so resonant that it cannot but cause excitement.

In addition, version 4.02 began to crash frequently in DX11 mode with an error, which makes it contraindicated for owners of older PCs.

poeben

So, if you don't have the latest computer, then it might be better for you not to upgrade to the new patch and keep playing on the previous version. In the end, it's better to keep the game stable than to get a slight performance increase that can lead to inconvenience and problems.
