Older AMD GPUs get RayTracing support with Radeon Vulkan drivers

AMD Ray Tracing Resident Evil Village 1600x228

AMD Radeon GPUs below RDNA2 architecture such as RDNA1 (Radeon RX 5000 series), Vega (Radeon RX Vega series) and Polaris (Radeon RX 400/500 series) have gained RayTracing technology compatibility with the latest RADV drivers (Radeon Vulkan Drivers) from the MESA open source library.

RDNA1, Vega and Polaris GPUs do not have dedicated hardware for this technology, but with an update they will be able to emulate it using software.

Users have already reported that they were able to run Quake II RTX. In terms of performance and quality, there is a noticeable difference compared to Nvidia GeForce RTX (RT Cores) or AMD Radeon RX 6000 Series (RA Cores), which include dedicated hardware for these tasks instead of the need for software emulation.
