Review of the Acer Nitro 5 (AN517-54) laptop

In our review, we present you the Acer Nitro 5 (AN517-54) laptop, which belongs to the gaming line, with a Core i7 11800H processor, 32GB DDR4 3200 MHz memory and a GEFORCE RTX 3070 video card with 8 gigabytes of video memory.

APPEARANCE AND CHARACTERISTICS

This section of our review highlights the main aspects of the Acer Nitro 5 (AN517-54), such as appearance and hardware configuration.

APPEARANCE

The laptop is quite compact and elegant. On the sides we have one usb 2.0, two usb 3.0, one usb type c and one HDMI. The laptop is powered from the back. Also available is a backlit keyboard and a large 17.3-inch QuadHD screen with a refresh rate of 144Hz.

The laptop power supply has a power of 230 watts and a voltage of 19.5 volts.

HARDWARE CONFIGURATION

The gaming laptop is equipped with a high-performance Core i7 11800H processor, which has 8 cores and 16 threads, as well as 24 megabytes of L3 cache.

The graphics subsystem consists of 2 video cards

In terms of processor performance, the Core i7 11800H is more than good.

The RAM speed is standard for such memory characteristics and is at a quite acceptable level.

The performance of drives is quite standard for their HDD class, but the SSD is quite high, even for desktops on PCI Express 4.0, which will be a special bonus for lovers of fast downloads.

We also measured how much the laptop "eats" from the outlet:

In the mode of viewing content on the Internet - about 60 watts, in the game mode - about 170 watts, well, at maximum load - about 185 watts.

The whole process of our testing was recorded by AverMedia Live Gamer ULTRA - GC553 4K video capture card and posted on Youtube. Time marks were placed on all videos, on each segment, so that it would be convenient for you to find the result you are interested in.

It was also separately adding a screen resolution of 3840x2160 , and although the laptop display (2560x1440 its ceiling) does not support it, it does not interfere with connecting it to a monitor or TV with this resolution without any problems.

As we can see, the game is playable at almost all resolutions at maximum settings. 60 frames can be obtained at a resolution of 1920x1080 with activated DLSS technology.

Horizon Zero Dawn

In Horizon Zero Dawn, performance is clearly limited by the processor, and when DLSS is activated, processor performance drops a little more. But also DLSS activation will allow you to play with fixed "console" 30 FPS and 40 FPS on 120 Hz TVs or monitors with VRR even in 4K

As we can see, the Resident Evil Village game does not work quite correctly and in certain places the processor frequency drops significantly, which leads to a loss in performance. But the frame rate is still acceptable in all modes.

Dying Light 2: Stay Human

Well, here in native resolution and with ray tracing turned on, we can play without any problems. At low resolutions, there are minor problems with processor performance.

CONCLUSION

Well, the impressions of the Acer Nitro 5 (AN517-54) laptop are purely positive - it is thin, light, technologically advanced and very productive. With a native maximum resolution of 2560x1440, it will be able to cope with all gaming innovations at maximum graphics settings without any problems. Also, DLSS technology will allow you to play with fixed "console" 30 FPS and 40 FPS on 120 Hz TVs or monitors with VRR even in 4K. Of the minuses, one can note the very "hot" nature of the laptop and its price.
