Development of DOOM Eternal began immediately after the release of DOOM (2016). The most important decision during the development process was the adoption of a new game engine, id Tech 7, which offered significant improvements over the previous id Tech 6 used in DOOM (2016). Id Tech 7 is a powerful development environment that allows you to create unique game worlds with incredible detail and complexity. Unlike the previous id Tech 6 engine, id Tech 7 offers improved texture handling, improved character modeling, and sophisticated physics effects. The engine is capable of recreating complex game scenes, providing improved performance and optimization.

However, one of the most significant benefits of id Tech 7 is its support for advanced ray tracing technology, or Ray Tracing.

Ray tracing is a rendering technique that models the behavior of light in 3D space by taking into account factors such as reflection, refraction, dispersion, and absorption. This is a very computationally intensive process, but thanks to revolutionary breakthroughs in the field of GPUs and hardware, it has become available in real time in computer games.

The implementation of ray tracing in DOOM Eternal was done after the fact and offers amazing improvements in graphics quality. The results are especially noticeable in reflections and shadows. Reflections now accurately reproduce the environment, adding depth and realism to scenes. Shadows are now softer and more natural, creating a compelling in-game atmosphere.

Ray tracing in DOOM Eternal is also used to improve lighting. Now all light sources in the game affect the environment, resulting in more natural and realistic lighting. In DOOM Eternal, DLSS offers an optimized and improved gaming experience, especially when used in conjunction with ray tracing. Using DLSS allows you to improve the frame rate, which is especially important when using resource-intensive ray tracing technology.

DLSS technology works by pre-training the neural network on thousands of high-resolution images, after which the network is able to recreate image details in real time, starting from the low-resolution image. This includes removing the blur and "ripples" that can occur with normal resolution upscaling.

All video cards were tested at maximum graphics quality by MSI Afterburner. The purpose of the test is to determine how video cards from different manufacturers behave under the same conditions. Below is a video of the test segment:

Our video cards were tested at resolutions of 1920x1080 , 2560x1440 and 3840x2160 at maximum graphics quality settings. Video memory limit blocking is bypassed using the  menu_advanced_ignoreVRAMAmount 1  console command .

In the test of video cards, the default resolution is 1920x1080, other resolutions are added and removed manually. You can also remove and add any positions of video cards. You can also select any of our test processors from the list in the drop-down menu, comparing its performance with the given video card tests (by default, the most productive solution is selected). The test is carried out on the most productive CPU in this game and is scaled to other processors, taking into account their testing on NVIDIA and AMD video cards.

Testing of the video memory consumed by the game was carried out by the  MSI Afterburner program. The results on video cards from AMD and NVIDIA at resolutions of  1920x1080, 2560x1440 and 3840x2160 with various anti-aliasing settings were taken as the indicator. By default, the graph displays the most up-to-date solutions. Other graphics cards are added and removed from the chart at the reader's request.

Testing was carried out at a resolution of 1920x1080. In the processor test, you can remove and add any positions of the processors. You can also select any tested video card from the list in the drop-down menu, comparing its performance with the results of processor tests  (by default, the most productive solution from NVIDIA is selected). Testing takes place on the most productive NVIDIA and AMD video cards and scales up to lower models.

The test was conducted on the base configuration Core i 9 13900K with 32 GB DDR5 6400 MHz pre-installed memory. All used RAM was taken as an indicator. The RAM test on the entire system was carried out on various video cards without running extraneous applications (browsers, etc.).
